2016 College Football Predictions: Week 2

(AP)
It is safe to say that the opening week of this college football season not only met our expectations but they clearly exceeded them. We seemingly had competitive and exciting contests all over the place and many of those same guys came right down to the wire. Can Week 2 match that at all? Here are my predictions.

Friday, September 9th
Maryland vs. FIU - CBSSN, 7:30
Pick: Maryland

13 Louisville vs. Syracuse - ESPN2, 8:00
Unless the Orange can turn the clock back to 1998, there will be no upset in the Loud House.
Pick: Louisville

Saturday, September 10th
Central Michigan vs. 22 Oklahoma State - FS1, 12:00
Pick: Oklahoma State

Nicholls vs. 9 Georgia - SEC Network, 12:00
Pick: Georgia

I think a Pitt club with a little more experience and a stronger defense will get the edge at home.
Pick: Pittsburgh

Pick: Florida State

Troy vs. 2 Clemson - ACC Network, 12:30
Pick: Clemson

Louisiana-Monroe vs. Oklahoma - FSN Pay-Per-View, 7:00
Pick: Oklahoma

Georgia Southern vs. South Alabama - ASN, 7:00
Pick: Georgia Southern

Northern Illinois vs. USF - CBSSN, 7:00
Neither may be that high-profile but this should be a solid matchup between a pair of quality mid-major clubs. That said, I think this is a slightly off year for NIU and a superior club in USF at home and will get the win.
Pick: USF

Maine vs. Toledo - ESPN3, 7:00
Pick: Toledo

UTEP vs. 11 Texas - Longhorn Network, 7:00
Pick: Texas

Arkansas vs. 15 TCU - ESPN, 7:00
Even if Bret Bielema's Razorbacks can control the clock and play physical, I think that the Horned Frogs have enough firepower to pull out the win.
Pick: TCU

Bethune-Cookman vs. North Texas - 7:00
Pick: North Texas

NC Central vs. Western Michigan - ESPN3, 7:00
Pick: Western Michigan

McNeese State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette - ESPN3, 7:00

Pick: Louisiana Tech

Jacksonville State vs. 21 LSU - ESPNU, 7:30
Pick: LSU

Eastern Michigan vs. Missouri - SEC Network, 7:30
Pick: Missouri

BYU vs. Utah - Fox, 7:30
Ah yes, the Holy War. These are both good teams that should be bowling this winter but it has been since 2009 that Utah has commandeered this rivalry. This year, that will change for the Cougars.
Pick: BYU

Iowa State vs. 16 Iowa - BTN, 7:30
Pick: Iowa

Arkansas State vs. Auburn - SEC Network, 7:30
Pick: Auburn

North Carolina vs. Illinois - BTN, 7:30

Pick: UCLA

Southern vs. Tulane - ESPN3, 8:00
Pick: Tulane

Virginia Tech vs. 17 Tennessee - Bristol, TN - ABC, 8:00
Seriously, this game is being played at Bristol Motor Speedway so you gotta love that. Even against a quality Appalachian State team, Tennessee should not have struggled with them the way they did. The Hokies are better than the Mountaineers but I like the Vols to get back on track.
Pick: Tennessee

New Mexico vs. New Mexico State - ESPN3/Fox Sports Arizona Plus, 8:00
Pick: New Mexico

Texas Tech vs. Arizona State - FS1, 10:00
Pick: Arizona State

Washington State vs. Boise State - ESPN2, 10:15
As much as I'd love to pick the upset, which I think could happen, it is just too hard to win on that blue turf.
Pick: Boise State

California vs. San Diego State - CBSSN, 10:30
This may be considered an upset to some but it shouldn't. San Diego State is a very good club and they're the better team here.
Pick: San Diego State

Virginia vs. 24 Oregon - ESPN, 10:30
Pick: Oregon

Grambling vs. Arizona - Pac-12 Networks, 10:45
Pick: Arizona

Sunday, September 11th
Tennessee-Martin vs. Hawaii - Oceanic Pay-Per-View/Campus Insiders, 12:00 am
Pick: Tennessee-Martin

  1. Two things. Virginia Tech is not better-not even half as good as TENNESSEE and Central Michigan is playing Oklahoma State

    1. Read it again, I said that Virginia Tech is better than the Mountaineers, as is in the Mountaineers of Appalachian State.

Oklahoma was a typo, that's been fixed.
