2016 Chase for the Sprint Cup Predictions: Round of 16

The 2016 Chase for the Sprint Cup has arrived. 16 drivers still have their hopes alive of winning the Sprint Cup Series but they have to survive three eliminations just to have a shot at Homestead. In three weeks, which drivers will advance and which will be eliminated? Here are my predictions for the Round of 16.

1 Kyle Busch
Projected winner at Chicagoland

2 Matt Kenseth
Projected winner at New Hampshire

3 Martin Truex Jr.
Projected winner at Dover

4 Kevin Harvick

5 Denny Hamlin

6 Carl Edwards

7 Joey Logano

8 Jimmie Johnson

9 Brad Keselowski

10 Kyle Larson

11 Kurt Busch

12 Chase Elliott
This will not be the year that a rookie wins the Chase but considering his age, I don't think that Elliott is in quite a rush just yet. His ability to stay out of trouble (only one DNF this season and that came at Las Vegas) and his consistency on the track should help him do just enough to advance.

13 Jamie McMurray
McMurray has had itself a quietly solid season but will there be enough speed when he needs it the most in this Chase? After all, he has yet to lead a lap this season.

14 Austin Dillon
Another driver that has done a nice drive and been consistent is Dillon but when it comes to the Richard Childress Racing stable, I just have not seen all that much speed this season. Therefore, I'm not certain that he will be able to get the strong enough performances to be able to advance.

15 Tony Stewart
This will be Smoke's last stand but I just don't see it making it far unless he cranks out a win. He really has not had a lot of speed the last couple of seasons and he struggled down the stretch of the regular season.

16 Chris Buescher
Considering that Buescher had to fight just to make the top-30 in points in order to qualify for the Chase even with his upset win at Pocono, I would be greatly surprised if he were to survive the first elimination.

    1. I got caught up in other stuff that week, had a complete brainfart and failed to make the predictions before Charlotte.
