2016 US Open Predictions

It seems safe to say that this year's U.S. Open will be different from what we saw last year. After all, Chambers Bay was making its debut to much of the golfing world and to be very generous, reviews were mixed at best. Now, we're returning to a familiar face in the Oakmont Country Club in what will be the ninth Open hosted at the iconic Western Pennsylvania golf course. But will a familiar course bring to us a familiar champion or will we get somebody out of left field? Here are my predictions for the 2016 U.S. Open.
TV Schedule

Probably the biggest regret I have of Fox taking over the U.S. Open from NBC is that we will have to miss out on Johnny Miller discussing his 63 in the final round of the 1973 U.S. Open. After all, it only was likely the greatest round in the history of the majors of golf and I think it is a safe bet that we won't see anybody match that round this weekend. After all the last time the Open was at Oakmont, the winning score was +5 and it could go even higher if the weather and the wind do not cooperate.

For our defending champion, there will be a question of whether there will be any lasting effect from his collapse at the Masters for Jordan Spieth but quite frankly, I don't think there will. After all, he handled that disaster pretty well and he did win relatively recently with a very solid performance in Fort Worth a couple of weeks ago. But his driving has been a little spotty and with the infamous rough at Oakmont, that will scare me off a little.

But for me, the winner will be Jason Day. While it is always easy to pick the favorite going into any tournament, there is no player that is playing better on the tour right now. He's got the top all-around game in my opinion and his short game is what will set him apart this year.
