2016 Preakness Stakes Picks

The run for the Triple Crown is on as this Saturday, we will be back at Pimlico Race Course for the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes. As one would expect, all eyes are on Nyquist after a convincing victory two weeks ago in the Kentucky Derby. Will he be the third straight horse, and the fourth in five years, to get to Belmont with a chance for the Triple Crown or will it all be for naught come Saturday evening? Here are my picks.

Live Odds

WIN - Nyquist (3/5)
For what it's worth, these odds are so low (and likely to go even lower) so I would not advise to actually bet on this horse. That said, this seems like an easy pick. First off, he looked so impressive in the Derby that he's hard to ignore. Second, it looks like we will have some rain in Baltimore on Saturday and Nyquist has run and run well on a wet surface before.

PLACE - Exagerrator (3/1)
Another relatively easy pick for a strong finish has to be the Derby runner-up. He may not have enough speed to outlast Nyquist but given his success in rainy conditions before, save for the San Felipe Stakes, he should be in for a strong run on Saturday. It would take a whale of an effort for him to take out Nyquist, barring something crazy.

SHOW - Lani (30/1)
If you're looking to get a little crazy and take a chance on a longer shot, Lani may be your best bet. I wouldn't put a great deal of stock in the fact that he struggled when he ran in the rain in Japan considering that he hadn't raced in months. Lani didn't look terrible in the Derby and as he races in America once again, he could get in the mix.
