2016 Big Ten Tournament Predictions

In 2016, the Big Ten Tournament will return to Indianapolis and the Bankers Life Fieldhouse after being hosted by the city of Chicago. The conference was as competitive as ever on the hardwood this season but in the end, it was the Indiana Hoosiers that rebounded from a pair of disappointing seasons after their last Big Ten regular season title to win the 2016 title. They have never won the conference tournament, as you know, so could this be the year they break through?

Here are my predictions for the 2016 Big Ten Tournament.

First Round - Wednesday, March 9th
12 Illinois vs. 13 Minnesota - ESPN2, 4:30
Pick: Minnesota

11 Nebraska vs. 14 Rutgers - BTN, 7:00
Pick: Nebraska

Second Round - Thursday, March 10th
8 Michigan vs. 9 Northwestern - BTN, 12:00
Pick: Michigan

5 Iowa vs. 13 Minnesota - BTN, 2:30
Pick: Iowa

7 Ohio State vs. 10 Penn State - ESPN2, 6:30
Pick: Ohio State

6 Wisconsin vs. 11 Nebraska - ESPN2, 9:00
Pick: Wisconsin

Quarterfinals - Friday, March 11th
1 Indiana vs. 8 Michigan - ESPN, 12:00
Pick: Indiana

4 Purdue vs. 5 Iowa - ESPN, 2:30
Pick: Purdue

2 Michigan State vs. 7 Ohio State - BTN, 6:30
Pick: Michigan State

3 Maryland vs. 6 Wisconsin - BTN, 9:00
I do think that the Terrapins are better than the Badgers but with how much they struggled down the stretch, I don't have a great deal of confidence in this Maryland team right now.
Pick: Wisconsin

Semifinals - Saturday, March 12th
1 Indiana vs. 4 Purdue - CBS, 1:00
Unfortunately, the Old Oaken Bucket is not in play here (although it would be awesome). While the Hoosiers are terrific offensively, I think their inconsistent defense could be their downfall here against a solid Purdue club.
Pick: Purdue

2 Michigan State vs. 6 Wisconsin - CBS, 3:30
After the bizarre timing of Bo Ryan's retirement, Greg Gard has done a very nice job. That said, he could morph into Dick Bennett and it wouldn't be enough to upset the Spartans here.
Pick: Michigan State

Championship - Sunday, March 13th
2 Michigan State vs. 4 Purdue - CBS, 3:00
Purdue was able to win a thriller in overtime in West Lafayette the one time these two teams played but I think on a neutral floor, Sparty will win it.
Pick: Michigan State
