2016 American Tournament Predictions

The third edition of the American Athletic Conference Tournament will take place this weekend at the Amway Center in Orlando following a year each in Memphis and in Hartford. You may think that perhaps UCF could have a bit of a homecourt advantage but I wouldn't count on it because, well, UCF is awful. The conference as a whole is down a little bit and having SMU ineligible for postseason play makes this tournament a little less interesting. But hey, that's why they play the games right?

Here are my predictions for the 2016 American Tournament.

First Round - Thursday, March 10th
8 East Carolina vs. 9 South Florida - ESPNU, 3:30
Pick: South Florida

7 UCF vs. 10 Tulane - ESPNEWS, 6:00

Quarterfinals - Friday, March 11th
1 Temple vs. 9 South Florida - ESPN2, 12:00
Pick: Temple

4 Cincinnati vs. 5 Connecticut - ESPN2, 2:00
Cincinnati did sweep the Huskies this season and I think they'll make it a threepeat right here.
Pick: Cincinnati

2 Houston vs. 7 UCF - ESPNU, 7:00
Pick: Houston

3 Tulsa vs. 6 Memphis - ESPNU, 9:00
The Golden Hurricane did lose to Memphis at the FedExForum a week ago but I think they'll prevail on a neutral floor.
Pick: Tulsa

Semifinals - Saturday, March 12th
1 Temple vs. 4 Cincinnati - ESPN2, 3:00
Temple may have swept the Bearcats this season but both games were tight. I actually think that Cincy has the best team.
Pick: Cincinnati

2 Houston vs. 3 Tulsa - ESPN2, 5:00
The superior offense of the Cougars will be the difference here.
Pick: Houston

Championship - Sunday, March 13th
2 Houston vs. 4 Cincinnati - ESPN, 3:15
The Cougars lost in Cincinnati in January by 11 while the Bearcats lost in Houston by 13 this past Sunday. I'm leaning Houston here because they have been playing some really good basketball this past month and that momentum will be the difference.
Pick: Houston
