2015 FIFA Women's World Cup: Final Predictions

It has all come down to this in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup and what better than a rematch of the classic 2011 final between Japan and the United States. We all remember what happened four years ago with Japan outlasting the U.S. in penalty kicks but can we expect this go-around? Will the Japanese be the first to repeat as champions since Germany in 2007 or will the Americans get their first title since 1999? Here's my predictions for the final.

TV Schedule

Sunday, July 5th
United States vs. Japan - Fox, 7:00
These two got to the final in different ways. The United States put together what was easily their most impressive performance of the tournament thus far by, frankly, dominating Germany 2-0 on Tuesday. For Japan, it was a tight contest throughout against England with an own goal by the Three Lions in stoppage time being the difference.

Both teams have been excellent defensively throughout the tournament as are their respective modus operandi. However, I would say that the USWNT have been a little better on that end as they have not given up a goal since their first goal of the tournament (almost one month ago) and have only given up one goal overall. Plus, their offense really turned a corner against Germany and looked terrific.

It really has been a while but I think that the United States, on Independence Day weekend nonetheless, will win their third Women's World Cup.
USA 2 Japan 0
