2015 NASCAR on NBC Announcers

Fourteen years after beginning their inaugural NASCAR television contract with the July race at Daytona, then called the Pepsi 400, NBC Sports will return to NASCAR coverage on July 4th weekend. NBC signed a major new television deal along with Fox almost two years ago and will carry both Xfinity Series action as well as Sprint Cup action all the way to the conclusion of the NASCAR season. And for those that remember NBC's first foray into NASCAR coverage, there will be a whole bunch of new faces on NBC's coverage so let's take a look.

2015 NASCAR TV Schedule

NBC's broadcast team will be Rick Allen handling the play-by-play with former driver Jeff Burton and former crew chief Steve Letarte. Allen came to NBC from SPEED where he handled the Truck Series for a long time and he is a pro. Burton and Letarte, however, are rookies in the broadcast booth and have never called races before. Both are charismatic guys while Burton has always been known to be outspoken so I don't see any reason why neither will not work well in the booth (I have enjoyed Burton's analysis when he's been on NBCSN's NASCAR America) but considering both are rookies, who knows.

NBC's pre-race coverage will be hosted by Krista Voda, who comes from Fox, and she will be joined by Dale Jarrett, formerly of ESPN, and Kyle Petty, formerly of TNT. Rutledge Wood will provide features and Nate Ryan will be the insider. That should be a solid studio crew as Voda is terrific and both Petty, who has never been afraid to speak his mind, and Jarrett are very good in their own right.

Jarrett and Petty will also be in the booth for select Xfinity races. Leigh Diffey will do the play-by-play for six Xfinity races when he does not have Formula One or IndyCar action.

The pit reporters will be Dave Burns, Mike Massaro, Marty Snider and Kelli Stavast. It's a pretty solid crew with the sole holdovers from NBC's previous contract (Burns and Snider) and one holdover from NBC's two pre-contract races from 1999 and 2000 (Massaro).
