2015 Preakness Stakes Picks

It is the 140th running of the Preakness Stakes this Saturday, the second leg of the Triple Crown. As one would expect, the focus is on Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah as it aims to become the first horse since Affirmed to win it all. Will the Belmont Stakes see a horse poised to get the Triple Crown for the second straight or will it all be for naught?

Here are my picks for tomorrow's Preakness.

Odds

WIN - American Pharoah
It was not a dominant performance in the Derby from the Bob Baffert horse but I don't think he ran his best race. But even then, he came out in top thanks to a late break for the lead from the outside against a strong field. I think the shorter distance at Pimlico will not be a hindrance as American Pharoah will outlast the field once again.

PLACE - Firing Line
The runner-up at Churchill Downs will be the runner-up in Baltimore. Firing Line has been earning the reputation as "always a bridesmaid" as he has now lost three races by a length or less. Nobody would or should be surprised if Firing Line does one better than it did two weeks ago but I don't think it has the legs to surpass American Pharoah.

SHOW - Danzig Moon
Danzig Moon finished fifth in the Derby but did struggle with the crowded field. With a much smaller field at Pimlico (only eight horses total), look for him to do a little better. It is not a horse that is good enough to win as he has only won once in six starts but it can get a podium finish in tomorrow's race.
