The run for the Triple Crown begins on Saturday at Churchill Downs. It is the 141st edition of the Kentucky Derby and after all, it is only the Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports. The race is scheduled to be run tomorrow on NBC at 6:24 and preceded, of course, by several hours of exhilarating pre-race coverage on NBC and NBCSN.
Who will prevail? Here are my picks for the 2015 Kentucky Derby.
WIN - American Pharaoh
Of course, betting on the favorite is usually a bad omen but it has also happened the last three years with Orb and California Chrome. The hype machine has been going all out for this horse but in my humble opinion, I only think that it is a little over the top. He has yet to be tested and his post position is not ideal but in the end, I think is a horse that is too good not to win.
PLACE - Dortmund
Yes, I have got a Bob Baffert 1-2 finish. Hey, the guy has the best colts in the field. Dortmund is a strong pick after his dominant performance at Santa Anita and it has yet to lose at all to this point. He won't quite get there in the end though.
SHOW - Upstart
Upstart is indeed looking like a long shot after he was blown out at the Florida Derby but it has run well in each of his seven starts, winning three of them. And it has shown some speed that could be comparable at times to American Pharoah and Dortmund. Upstart could be a nice bet to take home a lot of cash.
