It is the second year of the "new" Big East Tournament and it follows a resurgent regular season that leaves the conference poised to get as many as six bids to the NCAA Tournament. All eyes are now on Villanova, who dominated the conference and only have lost two games all season, to see if they can get a top seed. The easiest way for them to make their case is to run through the conference tournament this week, but a loss could relegate them to the two line.
Here are my predictions for the 2015 Big East Tournament.
First round - Wednesday, March 11th
8 Seton Hall vs. 9 Marquette - Fox Sports 1, 7:00
Pick: Seton Hall
7 DePaul vs. 10 Creighton - Fox Sports 1, 9:30
Quarterfinals - Thursday, March 12th
1 Villanova vs. 8 Seton Hall - Fox Sports 1, 12:00
4 Providence vs. 5 St. John's - Fox Sports 1, 2:30
The Johnnies swept the Friars in the regular season and their superior offense will lead the way to the semis.
Pick: St. John's
2 Georgetown vs. 10 Creighton - Fox Sports 1, 7:00
3 Butler vs. 6 Xavier - Fox Sports 1, 9:30
This is a tough game to call because these two split their matchups with the home team winning by double-digits each time. I like the upset here.
Semifinals - Friday, March 13th
1 Villanova vs. 5 St. John's - Fox Sports 1, 7:00
This would be a huge win for the Red Storm and for coach Steve Lavin but they did just lose by 37 on Saturday to this same team.
2 Georgetown vs. 6 Xavier - Fox Sports 1, 9:30
I think Xavier's run will end here as the stronger defense of the Hoyas will be the difference.
Championship - Saturday, March 14th
1 Villanova vs. 2 Georgetown - Fox Sports 1, 8:30
The Hoyas will give Nova all they can handle but ultimately, the Wildcats are too strong on both ends of the court for anyone in this tournament.
