2015 College Football Playoff National Championship Predictions

After a thrilling debut to the College Football Playoff last week on New Year's Day (when both of my picks lost), we are now down to two to win all the marbles Monday night in Arlington. On one side, you've got the Oregon Ducks and on the other, you've got the Ohio State Buckeyes. Who will win the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship?

#2 Oregon (13-1) vs. #4 Ohio State (13-1) - ESPN, 8:30
Well at least we know that there will be a truckload of offense on Monday night with two exceptional offensive units. The Ducks are simply a machine offensively with Heisman winner Marcus Mariota and an exceptional amount of speed on that side of the ball. The Buckeyes are damn good in their own right offensively, which is really impressive considering they are on their third quarterback in Cardale Jones. Devin Smith is an excellent deep threat and Ezekiel Elliott was a monster running the ball against Alabama.

One of the things that I think helped to turn the tide towards the Buckeyes in the Sugar Bowl was turnovers by the Crimson Tide, specifically the interceptions by Blake Sims, and how OSU was able to take advantage of said turnovers when their offense was cranking. However, Oregon and particularly Mariota do a really good job of taking care of the pigskin while they excel at forcing turnovers, hence how the Rose Bowl got out of hand very fast. Ohio State's defense is not strong enough in my opinion to slow down Oregon and I think if they do not force turnovers, they will fall.

Oregon will win the national championship, their first in program history, and be the first College Football Playoff champions.
