As you can see there a number of changes from last year's announcing lineup but Fowler replacing Musburger stands out for obvious reasons. Musburger has been the voice of the Saturday night package since it debuted in 2006 and has been the face of college football since Keith Jackson retired. Now in steps Fowler, who had been looking to do more play-by-play and was indirectly angling for the Saturday night. Musburger's contract had expired too and that left ESPN in a tough spot. I can't blame ESPN for this decision as while Musburger still has his fastball with football (basketball is a different story), they also risked potentially losing a versatile talent like Fowler. Fowler is not Musburger in the booth but he is a fine play-by-play announcer for football and he already has built-in chemistry with Herbstreit, whom he will be travelling with when GameDay and Saturday Night Football are at different locations. It will certainly make college football even more worthwhile to tune in for.

  1. Why is Beth Mowins still on ESPN2???? Annoying would be an undertatement. Don't you people listen to her??
