2014 Horizon League Tournament Predictions

The 2014 Horizon League Tournament kicks off this Tuesday with all eyes seemingly on the Green Bay Phoenix. Green Bay has been the strongest team in Horizon League play all year, going 14-2 in the conference, and even notched an upset over Virginia early in the year. They have not made the NCAA Tournament in 20 years, with the legendary Dick Bennett coaching them in their last appearance in 1994. Can they get that tournament berth, or will Cleveland State, Wright State, Valpo or somebody else get that auto-bid?

Here are my Horizon League Championship predictions.

First Round - March 4th
#8 Detroit vs. #5 Milwaukee - Horizon League Network, 7:00
Pick: Milwaukee

#7 Youngstown State vs. #6 Oakland - Horizon League Network, 7:00
Pick: Oakland

#9 UIC vs. #4 Valparaiso - Horizon League Network, 8:30
Pick: Valparaiso

Quarterfinals - March 7th
#6 Oakland vs. #3 Wright State - Horizon League Network, 7:00
Call me crazy, call me maybe, but I'm feeling upset city.
Pick: Oakland

#5 Milwaukee vs. #4 Valparaiso - Horizon League Network, 9:30
Pick: Milwaukee

Semifinals - March 8th
#6 Oakland vs. #2 Cleveland State  - 7:00 (ESPNU, 11:30)
But upsets go so far.
Pick: Cleveland State

#5 Milwaukee vs. #1 Green Bay - ESPNU, 9:30
Pick: Green Bay

Championship - March 11th
#2 Cleveland State vs. #1 Green Bay - ESPN, 7:00
The Vikings are a pretty solid club, but I simply do not think they are as good as the Phoenix this year.
Pick: Green Bay

  1. A) Thanks for the predictions, these are good to see. B) It appears that you wanted to pick Oakland over Wright State, but wrote down Wright State.

  2. The quarterfinals are actually on the Horizon League TV Network & ESPN3, not the online streamed Horizon League Network.
