Super Bowl XLVIII Predictions

It's the day we have been waiting for all season long, and really all year long, Super Bowl Sunday. It's the big game, and the Vince Lombardi Trophy is on the line. And, it's being played in New Jersey! If you would have told young me there would be a Super Bowl in my backyard, I would've thought you were nuts, but here we are. It's the Denver Broncos. It's the Seattle Seahawks. Who will be crowned Super Bowl champions?

Every Super Bowl matchup is exciting it seems, but this is an awesome matchup that we have got ourselves this Sunday. I mean, what's wrong with the top defense in the league in Seattle taking on the top (and record setting) offense in the league in Denver. There is no clear favorite in this ballgame and hopefully that will mean that we have an excellent game and we have been lucky with quality games in recent years, with the last crappy game being XLI in 2007. And who won that game? Mr. Peyton Manning.

But unfortunately for Manning, I think this is going to be his second Super Bowl loss rather than his second Super Bowl win. I think that the Seahawks are the one team best equipped to slow down Manning and the high-powered Denver offense.

We all know about the Seattle defense, they're excellent on that side of the ball, particularly against the pass. The secondary, the so-called Legion of Boom, is fantastic. Richard Sherman, what else can be said about him? The safeties, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, are excellent as well. What is also vital to their pass defense is their deep pass rush which has a number of guys that can get after the quarterback.

Another key for Seattle is their running game and big press guy Marshawn Lynch. The best way to beat Manning is to keep the ball out of his hands and there are few better at pounding the run and killing clock than Lynch and the Seahawks, it's their offensive mantra. Sure Denver is a solid run defense, but a lot of the time their opponents are ditching the running game due to Manning and co. pushing the action through the air. I think the Hawks will run it and run it often, and with success.

What will be important for the Seahawks will be what Russell Wilson brings to the table. I'm a Wilson guy and I like him a lot, but he has not done a whole lot this postseason. He has not been asked to lead the offense much and has made mistakes when asked to do more. If he can get the vertical passing game going with a returning Percy Harvin, who has been barely healthy all year, the Seahawks will be in good shape.

All in all, I like the Seahawks on Sunday. They will win their first ever Super Bowl and they will not even have to play the referees to do it. It also does not hurt that I predicted Seattle to win it all back in August.
