2015 NFL Playoff Predictions: Wild Card

The 2015 NFL Playoffs commence this weekend with two doubleheaders of action. Which four clubs will win their Wild Card contests in order to advance to the Divisional round to take on the teams that were off this weekend? Here are my picks.

2015 College Football Playoff Semifinal Predictions

Remember when the Bowl Championship Series was still a thing? Well now it is a relic as we have finally come to a playoff in college football, and it debuts on New Year's Day. Four teams will be playing in a semifinal in order to advance to the inaugural College Football Playoff National Championship in Arlington on January 12th. Who will survive and advance? Here are my predictions.

The Panthers are hosting a playoff game with a losing record, and that's okay

(Getty)
The Carolina Panthers at one point this season went two months without winning a football game. They allowed more points than they scored, 35 to be exact, and they finished with a 7-8-1 record. And yet here they are, having won their final four games to win the NFC South and get to host a game in the NFC Playoffs. They will only host a team in the Arizona Cardinals that only won four more games than them. Therefore, this has led many an observer to say that a division winner should not automatically get to host a playoff game.

However, I don't agree with that mindset and here is why.

2014 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 17

Eyes on the prize (AP)
The penultimate week in the 2014 NFL regular season did clear up much of dust in the playoff picture but there are still a handful of clubs, particularly in the AFC, that are still alive. Four teams are battling for the final AFC wild card spot (San Diego, Baltimore, Houston and Kansas City) and divisional crowns in both conferences still need to be decided. How will this week's results answer the questions? Here are my projections.

Does Rajon Rondo make the Mavericks title contenders?

(USATSI)
We have not even reached Christmas yet and we already have the first big splash of the NBA season. The Celtics and the Mavericks agreed on a deal that sends Rajon Rondo as well as Dwight Powell to Dallas in exchance for Brandan Wright, Jae Crowder, Jameer Nelson, a conditional first-round pick, a second-round pick in 2016 as well as a trade exception. It's a bold move for Dallas, could be it one that could provide some separation in a deep Western Conference?

2014-15 Bowl Game Predictions

(AP)
It is that time of year my friends: bowl season. And for those that love all the myriad bowl contests, there are more than ever this year with 39 games including the debut of the College Football Playoff, and five brand new games in such locales as Boca Raton, Detroit, Miami, Montgomery and even Nassau. I will hold off on my Playoff picks until closer to New Year's Day but now I will pick every other bowl game from the New Orleans Bowl to GoDaddy Bowl and everything in between.

2014 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 16

There are only two weeks left in the 2014 NFL season and while a handful clubs have already punched their playoff tickets (Arizona, Denver, New England and Indianapolis), there is still much to be decided with some tight races across the two conferences. Here are my projections for the playoff field this week.

2014 NFL Predictions: Week 16

With only two games to go in the season, this is a huge week in the NFL. And not only are there some greatly important games for playoff position but we also have the return to Saturday NFL games! Who doesn't love that? There will be a doubleheader of games this Saturday as well as one of the worst primetime games ever. That enough for you? Here are my picks for Week 16.

In firing Michael Malone, the Kings continue to be defined by dysfunction

(USATSI)
For the Sacramento Kings, one can surmise that their season to this point has been a success. DeMarcus Cousins has been fantastic and the team finds themselves just on the outside looking in in the playoff hunt even with Cousins being out the last nine games and the team going 2-7 as a result. For a franchise that has been all over the place the last decade, this seems like good news, right?

Nope, hence why the team stunned the NBA by firing coach Michael Malone early this morning.

2014 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 15

(AP)
There are only three weeks in the 2014 NFL season and with some tight divisional and Wild Card races in both conferences, the games are growing in magnitude. Here are my predictions as to how this playoff race will wind up down the stretch.

Who will win the Heisman Trophy tonight? I think we all know

(AP)
The recipient of the Heisman Trophy for the 2014 season will be announced tonight at the Downtown Athletic Club and for the second straight season, it seems that the winner is already set in stone. Of course, it largely seems that the winner is a foregone conclusion and I think it is safe to say that people would be surprised if Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota does not win it tonight.

How the College Football Playoff weekly rankings were proven irrelevant

Jeff Long, committee chairman (AP)
The answers to the question of "Who's in?" have been reveled. In the inaugural year of the College Football Playoff, the final four teams will be Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State. Oregon will play Florida State in the Rose Bowl and Alabama will play Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. The first two teams out were Baylor and TCU.

With this afternoon's announcement of the final rankings from the College Football Playoff selection committee we have realized something that many of us have known was going to happen: the weekly rankings the committee have done the last seven weeks have been proven to be irrelevant.

Come Sunday, all of our questions regarding the College Football Playoff will be answered as we will find out which four teams will be playing for all the marbles. 2014-15 Bowl Projections: Week 12

(AP)
It looks like we may have a controversy brewing already for the Selection Committee for the inaugural College Football Playoff, and it surrounds the Big 12. TCU, after an impressive win over Kansas State on Saturday night, sits at fourth in the rankings. Baylor, who blew out Oklahoma on Saturday, sits in seventh. It looks like it both teams win out, TCU would get to the playoff but here's the issue: Baylor beat them head-to-head and if both win out, Baylor, not TCU, will be the conference champion. TCU does have one relatively notable non-conference wins vs. Minnesota, but they also struggled to beat Oklahoma when Baylor crushed them. How much will the committee value head-to-head results, and conference championships? Still to be determined, quite frankly.

Something else of note from the rankings: Oregon jumping Florida State despite having a loss. The Seminoles have not looked all that impressive, but they still have yet to lose.

With all of that in mind, here are my bowl projections for this week.
