Akron wins the 2013 MAC Tournament, advances to NCAA's

Even without one of their key players, the Akron Zips had no such troubles this week in the 2013 MAC Tournament in Cleveland as they defeated the Ohio Bobcats this evening by a 65-46 final to advance to their third tournament in five years and their fourth overall. Many were concerned with the Zips as they would be without point guard Alex Abreu, who was arrested and then suspended over a week ago for possessing and trafficking marijuana. But on Saturday evening, they appeared to have no such trouble against a game Ohio team. Akron was led by junior forward Demetrius Treadwell, who had 13 and 10 and featured a balanced scoring output similar to what they have shown all season long.

North Carolina A&T wins the 2013 MEAC Tourney, advances to March Madness

Somebody had to win the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament and it end, it was the seventh seed that came out on top as the Aggies of North Carolina A&T defeated the Bears of Morgan State to win the automatic berth, 57-54. This is the first tournament berth for the Aggies since 1995, fitting that this was also their first winning season in 15 years and they had to slow down a red hot Morgan State club to do it, one that had won their last eight games. NC A&T was led by forward Adrian Powell, who had 14, and guard Lamont Middleton, who had 13.

Southern wins the 2013 SWAC Tourney, advances to March Madness

Southern coach Roman Banks
The Tigers of Southern University are headed to the 2013 NCAA Tournament. For the first time since 2006, they are dancing as they won the 2013 SWAC Tournament today in Garland, Texas by defeating the Prairie View A&M Panthers 45-44 in a game that was pretty sloppy, particularly the final play. After Southern guard Jameel Grace missed a long threeball with only seconds left on the clock, PVAMU guard Jourdan DeMuynck grabbed the rebound and ran down the court but lost control of the ball as time expired with no shot.

Watch the insane Southern Miss buzzer beater to force overtime in the C-USA Championship

Folks, it cannot get any closer than this. Needing a bucket to force overtime in the 2013 Conference USA Championship and to keep their hopes of an NCAA Tournament bid alive, Southern Miss was able to take advantage of a missed one-and-one free throw to get a layup for Neil Watson at the horn. You will not believe how close this shot was. Let's go to the videotape.

Albany wins the America East Tourney, headed to NCAA Tournament

For the first time since 2007, the Great Danes are going dancing. Albany went into Patrick Gym in Burlington and upset the Vermont Catamounts 53-49 to win the 2013 America East Tournament and they will advance to the NCAA Tournament for only the third time ever. The Great Danes took advantage of the quarterfinals and the semifinals at home and they won their three games by a total of seven points this tourney. Albany only had two scorers in double digits with senior guard Mike Black having 14 and junior forward Luke Devlin with 12.

Watch Bill Walton joke about Ray Lewis and Bill Simmons' suspension

Oh, to be Dave Pasch last night in Vegas. Bill Walton, who was working the nightcap of the quadruple-header in the Pac-12 Tournament quarterfinals for ESPNU between Washington and Oregon, was in absolutely rare form at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Among many glorious one-liners were two beauties that will get the attention of ESPN executives, one regarding new ESPN employee Ray Lewis and the recently-suspended Bill Simmons. Let's go to the videotape.

2013 Big Ten Tournament Predictions

Let's be honest, the Big Ten (or should I say B1G Ten?) has been the best conference in America this college hoops season and thus this may be the most anticipated conference tournament of championship week with a number of teams capable of winning it all this week in Chicago. Therefore, here are my predictions for the 2013 Big Ten Tournament.

2013 ACC Tournament Predictions

It is the 60th anniversary of the ACC Tournament and it will also be the final tourney with 12 teams as they are adding Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse, which should only make the tournament even more fun, if you are into that sort of thing. Will we see another Miami-Duke showdown in the final on Sunday or will somebody come out and surprise? Here are my 2013 ACC Tournament predictions.

2013 Atlantic 10 Tournament Predictions

After an extended stay in the legendary Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, the Atlantic 10 is riding the Garden State Parkway north, hooking a right onto Route 440 through Stalen Island and the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn and will play its tournament at the Barclays Center for the new five years. How about that? And I haven't been to the Barclays Center but I have heard it is awesome, so there's that. Here are my predictions.

2013 Big West Tournament Predictions

Little bit of some California love in the Big West, with the lone exception of the Rainbow Warriors and thus it should be a fun time in Anaheim this weekend. Long Beach State is the favorite and in recent history, we see repeats in this tournament, but could we see somebody else get in the mix and win that automatic bid? Here are my tournament predictions.

2013 Big Sky Tournament Predictions

Not going to lie, but I like the format of the Big Sky conference. Only seven out of eleven teams make the tournament, the tournament is reseeded in the second round, which is the semis, and the entire tourney is played at the host of the regular season champ, which makes sense for a one-bid league. That does give Montana a major advantage but don't count out Weber State or could somebody else make a run out of nowhere? Here are my predictions.

2013 Pac-12 Tournament Predictions

For the first time ever, the Pac-12 Tournament will be held in Las Vegas, one of many conference tourneys that are being held in Sin City this March. Their games will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on the Strip in Paradise and who knows, maybe people will actually go to these games for once? Especially considering the conference was actually pretty solid this year for the first time in years. Anyways, here are my tournament predictions.

2013 SWAC Tournament Predictions

You know what grinds my gears? This tournament is not being hosted in Dallas, it is being held in Garland. Yes, Garland is a suburb of Dallas, but again, the tournament is not being held in Dallas. Is it semantics? Of course, because it would have been such a big deal to put Garland, TX on the logo, right? My little rant aside, the SWAC Tournament should be interesting considering that two of the three teams that were above .500 this year overall, Texas Southern, who won the conference in the regular season, and Arkansas Pine-Bluff, are both ineligible due to sanctions. Therefore, it would be a huge upset if Southern did not win this tournament. But could it happen? Since I have stated that I am going to do predictions for every conference tournament, here are my predictions for the 2013 SWAC Tourney.

2013 Big 12 Tournament Predictions

The Big 12 Tournament has been historically been dominated by high seeds, as a three seed or lower has not won the tournament since 2009 and only four times overall in the history of the tournament (started in 1997). Could we see an upset champ or will the powers hold serve once again? Here are my predictions.

2013 Southland Conference Tournament Predictions

I am going to be completely honest, I have no idea where Katy, Texas is but I do know that she caught the Katy. I also know that the Southland Conference has some solid basketball and should in turn have a quality tournament at the Merrell (Don't call me Lynch) Center this week. Here are my predictions for the 2013 Southland Tournament.

2013 Conference USA Tournament Predictions

Conference USA will see quite a fair amount of upheavel in its conference following the 2013 tournament in Tulsa. Memphis, Houston, UCF and SMU will be heading to whatever the Big East will be called next year while the conference will add in its place Charlotte, FAU, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Old Dominion and UTSA. So if you are a passioniate C-USA hoops follower, better enjoy what you see this week. Here are my predictions.

Western Kentucky wins the Sun Belt, advances to March Madness

For the second straight year, the Hilltoppers are going dancing. And for the second straight year, they won four games in four nights to do so. Western Kentucky defeated Florida International tonight in the Sun Belt Tournament Final, 65-63. The Golden Panthers led by as much in the first half but Western Kentucky led the whole way in the second half in order to win the bid. This is WKU's third bid in program history.

Davidson wins the SoCon, advances to the NCAA Tournament

The Davidson Wildcats came into the Southern Conference Tournament Final on an absolute role, winning 16 in a row, and they will now carry a 17-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament as they smoked the Cougars of the College of Charleston tonight, 74-55, for their second straight conference championship and automatic bid. The Wildcats were led by De'Mon Brooks, who had 24 points.

James Madison wins the CAA, advances to NCAA Tournament

JMU coach Matt Brady
For the fifth time in program history, and for the first since 1994, the Dukes of James Madison are going dancing. They captured the automatic bid of the Colonial Athletic Association tonight in Richmond by defeating the top seeded Northeastern Huskies 70-57. The Dukes were led by senior guard A.J. Davis, who led all scorers with 26 points.

2013 SEC Tournament Predictions

I feel like Nashville is one of those towns that I have to go to one of these days; I hear that it is a fun place. Anyways, that is where the 2013 SEC Tournament will be hosted for the first time since 2010 and should see a solid crowd. The Florida Gators are the favorite but could we see a Kentucky, Missouri, Ole Miss or somebody else make a run to claim the title? Here are my predictions.

Why the Ravens are making a mistake in dealing Anquan Boldin

It makes sense that the Ravens were insistent on forcing a pay cut upon Anquan Boldin. After all, he played some of his best football in the postseason and his tremendous play played a huge role in the Ravens winning Super Bowl XLVII. Based off of that, he should be forced to take a $2 million pay cut.

But instead of making Boldin take a pay cut, or cutting him, the Ravens today traded him to the San Francisco 49ers for a sixth-round pick. And quite frankly, I think it is a rare mistake for Ozzie Newsome and the Baltimore front office.

Breaking down the Percy Harvin trade to the Seahawks

The first of high-profile wideout trades in the NFC West, the Minnesota Vikings sent the explosive Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a first and seventh in this year's draft as well as a mid-rounder in next year's. How does this move shake down for both clubs?

2013 Mountain West Tournament Predictions

There may be four tournaments taking place in Las Vegas but none has been there as long as long as the Mountain West has and considering how strong the conference has been all season long, none may be as competitive and exciting. Over half the league could end up in the NCAA's, particularly if Boise State has a good week. Plus, who doesn't love Reese's? Anyways, here are my predictions for the 2013 Mountain West Tournament.

2013 NCAA Tournament TV Schedule

Let's be honest, there are few if any things that are better than March Madness. One of the things that makes it great, specifically the first weekend, are all of the games going on at once across four networks, CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV. Therefore, it's a good thing for you that I have the 2013 NCAA Tournament television schedule for you right here. Enjoy.

2013 NCAA Tournament Announcers

We are coming up very quickly on the 2013 NCAA Tournament and I know that you are as excited as I am for the madness to commence. Something that plays a role in how memorable the tourney is are the announcers and fortunately for you, I have got the announcers for the CBS/Turner consortium this year. Only minor changes as Doug Gottlieb will join the broadcast crews and some shifting around of the sideline reporters (and unfortunately, Reggie Miller is still around). So let's take a look.

Watch DeAndre Jordan annihilate Brandon Knight with a crushing dunk

Turns out that Blake Griffin is not the only guy that can demolish guys with vicious dunks. I think Brandon Knight may actually be dead after DeAndre Jordan absolutely crushed him with an enormous alley-oop this evening. Let's go to the videotape.

10 March 2013

2013 WAC Tournament Predictions

This is the final tournament in the WAC with its status as a conference sponsoring football as after this tournament, as Louisiana Tech, Denver, Utah State, Texas-Arlington, Idaho, Texas State, San Jose State and Texas-San Antonio will all depart come July with new members being Cal State Bakersfield, Chicago State, Grand Canyon, Missouri-Kansas City, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley. Therefore, here are my 2013 WAC Tournament Predictions.

2013 Big East Tournament Predictions

Now this is the end of an era. This will be the last Big East Tournament in its current incarnation before the conference splits into the new Big East, what was nicknamed the "Catholic 7," and the leftovers which may be called the America 12. So enjoy this week, folks, because you will not see this again. With all of that in mind, here are my predictions for the 2013 Big East Tournament.

2013 MEAC Tournament Predictions

I've got great news, I will be in the Hampton Roads area for some of the MEAC Tournament. Unfortunately, I will not be attending any of the games but at least I'll be able to enjoy some atmosphere, I guess. Anyways, the 2013 MEAC Tourney kicks off tomorrow in Norfolk and thus, here are my predictions.

Liberty wins the 2013 Big South Tournament, headed to March Madness

They may have started the year with an eight-game losing streak, they may have finished with 20 losses but with all of that, the Flames of Liberty are still going dancing after defeating Charleston Southern today in the 2013 Big South Tournament Final in Conway by a 87-76 final. Liberty was led by junior guard John Caleb Sanders who had 27, fellow junior guard Davon Marshall with 20 and senior guard Tavares Speaks who had 18. This is their first tournament berth since 2004 and they will go in with the lowest winning percentage since 2005 thanks to their 15-20 record.

2013 MAC Tournament Predictions

Everybody MACtion in football but what about MACtion in hoops? Yeah, I didn't think so but all of that said, the 2013 MAC Tournament should be an interesting. The Akron Zips come in as the big favorite but with questions surrounding starting point guard Alex Abreu, who was arrested last week for possessing and trafficking marijuana and he pleaded not guilty on Friday, could they be prone for an upset?
