2013 Belmont Stakes Picks

I know it's a little late, but today is the 145th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park out on Long Island. The "Test of the Champion" may be the most grueling race for these thoroughbreds at 1.5 miles and it will be run once again without a Triple Crown being on the line. Derby winner Orb and Preakness winner Oxbow are both in the mix, but who will come out on top?

Win: Freedom Child (8/1)
A lot of folks are feeling Orb as being a strong favorite due to what will be sloppy conditions in the race, not unlike those seen in the Kentucky Derby, but I don't think that it will be able to catch Freedom Child, which is a colt that loves to go all out after the gates. This is also a colt that won at Belmont a few weeks ago in the Peter Pan Stakes, which also saw sloppy conditions.

Place: Incognito (17/1)
Looking for a little bit of an upset today? Incognito is one that will surprise and could win some folks a boatload of green if they play their cards right. Stamina is the name of the game at Belmont Park and this horse has shown itself to have plenty of it. It's sire won the Belmont Stakes, so there is that bloodline.

Show: Orb (2/1)
Yeah, I'm not feeling Orb as much to win like some other folks, but it should still definitely be in the mix and it will. Unfortunately, its late push at Freedom Child (which really is a glorious name) and Incognito will not be enough, but it will be fun to watch.
