What should we expect now from Florida Gulf Coast?

You know, I've got a feeling who the darlings of the 2013 NCAA Tournament are already. Florida Gulf Coast University was formed only a couple years before I was born, they have only playing basketball in Division I since 2007 and they only became eligible for the tournament last year. And yet here they are, in position to become the first 15th seed to reach the Sweet Sixteen and pulling off an historic upset over the second-seeded Georgetown Hoyas last night in Philadelphia, 78-68. They were high-flying and they were clearly the stronger team on the court. But now the question must be asked, were they just a fluke performance or are they going to be headed to the Regional Semifinals in Arlington?

Watching the Eagles run up and down the court and jump all over the Hoyas makes you wonder how this club was only a 15 seed. They showed a lot of athleticism and speed, and this awesome alley-oop really defined the game.

The swagger needed to pull a play like that off when Georgetown was working on a run showed the country that this squad is playing loose and playing with nothing to lose.

And that is precisely why this team is dangerous, they are playing with nothing to lose. They are not having to fight expectations to go deep because there were expectations for this team going in. And this team has some ballers with guards Sherwood Brown and Bernard Thompson putting up a lot of points and both have the stones to make big threes, and this team has a surprising amount of very athletic guys as shown by the team turning into a college version of Lob City.

But while they are dangerous as they are playing with nothing to lose, there is a reason why the six teams that upset a two seed in the first game before have never won. As often happens, the team that pulled off the huge upset sticks too much to celebrating that huge win that they do not go back and refocus on the next one. And sometimes, the 15th seed caught a lot of breaks and their luck runs out in the next round, as we saw with Norfolk State a year ago who shot out of their minds to upset Missouri and then went out and got drilled by Florida.

But then again, this is why March Madness is amazing, right?
