2013 NFL Playoffs: Conference Championship Picks

There are only four teams left in the fight to get to New Orleans and we will know who will be playing for the Lombardi Trophy after this Sunday. Who will be playing in Super Bowl XLVII? Here are my picks for the NFC and AFC Championship Games.

Divisional: 2-2
Playoffs: 5-3

San Francisco 49ers vs. Atlanta Falcons - FOX, 3:00
I must say, I was wrong about the Falcons last week against Seattle. I mean, they did blow a 20-point lead and nearly gave the Seahawks a chance to win the game late, but hey, they won, didn't they? However, even though they did just beat a mobile quarterback in Russell Wilson, I do think they will have a lot of trouble with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, similarly to how the Packers struggled mightily to keep him in check on Saturday night. The last time they played a quarterback like Kaepernick was back in week 14 when they faced Cam Netwon and the Panthers. Newton threw for 287 yards and a pair of touchdowns while also rushing for 116 yards on nine carries and a touchdown. For that reason, I give San Francisco the edge.

Baltimore Ravens vs. New England Patriots - CBS, 6:30
Let me tell you something. My mind tells me to go with the Patriots, after all they are tough to beat in Foxborough, they have only lost once in an AFC Championship Game (back in 2007 on the road) in the Bill Belichick era and they also looked the most impressive of any team this past weekend by blowing out the Texans. But for some reason, I like the Ravens. I love how the team has played of late with Jim Caldwell calling the plays. I love how Joe Flacco has been brilliant with the deep ball and Ray Rice has been strong on the ground. The Patriots' defense is not great and I think that if the Ravens are clicking, they can exploit it and don't forget, they beat New England back in September. I'm feeling the upset this Sunday.
