2014 NFL Wild Card Playoff Predictions

We have finally made it, the NFL Playoffs. 12 clubs, six in each conference, are alive with their Super Bowl hopes intact. Eight of those teams will be playing this weekend in the Wild Card round, who will survive and advance to the Divisional round? Here are my picks.

Why did the Browns fire Rob Chudzinski after one season?

It is Black Monday in the NFL but the coaching carousel kicked off with a vengeance on Sunday evening with a shocking development, Rob Chudzinski was fired after just one season with the Cleveland Browns. Chudzinski is the second coach of the Browns in a row that has been axed after just one season with Pat Shurmur getting the boot after last season. And the collective reaction has been one of complete surprise and befuddlement.

2013 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 17

Save for the divisions in the AFC, there is a whole lot at play in the final act of the 2013 NFL season. Who will win homefield advantage of either conference? Who will win in the winner-take-all contests for the NFC East and the NFC North? How will the wild race to the bottom for the second AFC Wild Card wrap up? You've got my predictions for Week 17, thus here is how I see the playoff picture coming out at the other end of the tunnel.

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 17

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 16

Everybody loves when the bowl season comes around, and this will be the last time the bowl picture will look as is with the end of the BCS looming, the rise of the College Football Playoff, and even more bowls! Therefore, here are my predictions for all 35 bowl games, including that much anticipated bout between Florida State and Auburn for all the marbles in Pasadena on January 6th.

2013 NFL on Fox Announcers & Distribution: Week 16

Some big news broke this past week for the NFL on Fox as it was reported that the coveted second divisional playoff game will be called by the strong crew of Kevin Burkhardt, a newcomer to Fox and John Lynch. This had been predicted by some but now it looks like Fox is high on the two of them to give them a playoff game. Meanwhile back at the ranch, Fox has six games on the docket in regional action. Said games are Saints-Panthers, Vikings-Bengals, Buccaneers-Rams, Cowboys-Washington, Giants-Lions and Cardinals-Seahawks. See what game you are getting and who is calling it after the jump.

2013 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 16

CBS has the doubleheader action this Sunday with a rare eight games. As we noted before the season, CBS only lists seven crews so for their eighth crew, they brought together a couple of guys from CBS Sports Network in the very good Andrew Catalon along with former NFL safety Adam Archuleta, pictured above. The eight games are Dolphins-Bills, Broncos-Texans, Titans-Jaguars, Colts-Chiefs and Browns-Jets in the early window, with Steelers-Packers, Raiders-Chargers and Patriots-Ravens in the national window Continue reading to see what game you will be getting and who will be calling it this Sunday on the NFL on CBS.

Is there any chance Jameis Winston does not win the Heisman?

This Saturday, the Downtown Athletic Club will present the winner of the 2013 Heisman Trophy to one of six finalists, the first time the number has been that high since there were six finalists in 1994. The finalists are Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch, Texas A&M quarterback and defending winner Johnny Manziel, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, Auburn running back Tre Mason, Boston College running back Andre Williams and Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston is considered to be the heavy favorite, but could we witness an upset with the presentation?

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 15

We saw some fantastic football on Sunday. We also saw some crazy weather on Sunday with plenty of cold temps and certainly a lot of snow. So for all of those folks that worry that a cold Super Bowl, even a blizzard Super Bowl, would be disastrous, I think they need to wake up and smell the roses. Here are my Week 15 picks.

Looks like Danica Patrick is no fan of Jay Mohr

Last night was the annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Awards Ceremony is Las Vegas with the host of the events being comedian and Fox Sports Radio host Jay Mohr. Now I'm not a huge fan of Mohr but he had some quality bits last night including awaiting when Kevin Harvick fights one of Gene Haas' grandkids and criticizing Clint Bowyer's acting (watch his full monologue here). But the night was without question by a joke he made about Danica Patrick and how she might be uncomfortable considering she's "not used to being this close to the front," obviously making light of her struggles this year. Safe to say she and boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. (who was also Rookie of the Year) did not enjoy the joke. Let's go to the videotape.

Why Jameis Winston was not charged with sexual assault

(AP)
Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will be charged with sexual assault by the Florida state attorney's office after an ongoing investigation regarding a sexual assault complaint filed in December of last year. Here is why Willie Meggs, state attorney for the Second Judicial Court, decided not to charge Winston.

The NFL for breakfast? It's coming in 2014

(AP)
The NFL has announced the London series for the 2014 NFL season with a third game, up from two this year. In Week 4 on September 28th, the Raiders will host the Dolphins. In Week 10, the Jaguars will host the Cowboys. And the big whopper is the Week 8 game between the Lions and the Falcons which, unlike the other two games that will start at the traditional 6 p.m. London time and 1 p.m. Eastern, this one will kick off at 1:30 p.m. London time, meaning an East Coast start of 9:30 a.m. and a West Coast time of 6:30 a.m. Yes, you read that correctly.

2013 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 14

December has arrived and we have reached the final quarter of the 2013 NFL season with still much to be decided, even with one team in the Seattle Seahawks that has clinched a playoff berth. There are a number of compelling races to watch down the stretch and I think we are all wondering how the pitiful race for the second Wild Card spot in the AFC will shape out. Here are my projections as of Week 14.

03 December 2013

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 14

AP
Who is the best team in football? After their demolition of the Saints on Monday night, you would have to say the Seahawks, right? I certainly think so, at least at this juncture, and considering how good this club is at home as well as the fact they have the inside line to homefield advantage...maybe I shouldn't get too ahead of myself. After all, they do have a tough road bout with their division rivals, the 49ers. Here are my week 14 picks.

01 December 2013

2013 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 14

2013 NFL on Fox Announcers & Distribution: Week 14

As we have reached the 14th Sunday of this NFL season, Fox has the doubleheader this week. In the early slot, the games are Falcons-Packers, Vikings-Ravens and Lions-Eagles. 2013-14 Bowl Projections: Week 14

Not only was Chris Davis' touchdown return of a missed Alabama field goal epic, it helped to throw another wrench in the BCS. Now with top ranked Alabama out of the championship picture (for now), Florida State and Ohio State are both in the driver's seat but you now have both Auburn and Missouri in the mix when they play in Atlanta for the SEC Championship if either slips. Just in case you didn't have enough reasons to be watching college football next weekend. Here are my latest bowl projections.

2013 College Football Predictions: Championship Week

After a wild Week 14, quite likely the best week of the college football campaign, we have arrived at the week of conference championship games with seven of those this weekend. And of course we have plenty of storylines. Can Northern Illinois get back to the BCS? Will Florida State and Ohio State continue their undefeated seasons and meet in Pasadena? Will an unlikely showdown in the SEC Championship result in Missouri or Auburn getting to the title game? Here are my picks.

30 November 2013

Greatest ending ever? Watch Auburn stun Alabama on missed field goal return TD

I kid you not, this just may be the craziest ending to any college football game, let alone a huge rivalry with serious BCS implications. Top-ranked Alabama had a 14 point lead early on but allowed Auburn to hang around all game, with the latter tying the game at 28 with 44 seconds left. Alabama put themselves in a position to try a last second Hail Mary after a replay gave them one more second on the clock but they instead chose to try for a 57 yard field goal for the win. And the rest is history. Let's go to the videotape.

Jason Kidd on intentionally spilling soda: "It's about trying to win"

The bright spots for the Brooklyn Nets, easily one of the biggest disappointments in the young NBA season, have been far and few between. The Nets' latest loss against the Lakers on Wednesday night dropped them to 4-11 and 12th in the Eastern Conference, but nobody is talking about the loss. Rather, the hot topic is this unusual moment featuring rookie coach Jason Kidd in which he all but tells Tyshawn Taylor to bump into him to spill his soda to all but buy him an extra timeout. Let's go to the videotape.

2013 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 13

We have got five more weeks until the 2013 NFL Playoffs commences and the races for both the divisions and for the Wild Cards are about to really kick into high gear. Thanks to the good folks that bring us the Playoff Machine, here are my projections for Week 13 as to how the playoff picture will look.

26 November 2013

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 13

It simply would not be Thanksgiving without football. After all, if you had to pick between football and cranberry sauce, is that even a question? The NFL on Thanksgiving is as old as the league itself and football on Thanksgiving dates back to the Grant administration. So have a Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy some football, and enjoy my week 13 predictions.

24 November 2013

2013 NFL on Fox Announcers & Distribution: Week 13

When it's Thanksgiving, it's football and that means the Detroit Lions at 12:30. This Thursday Fox Sports has the 12:30 game with the Lions hosting their rivals, the Green Bay Packers. And then on Sunday, Fox has regional action with the early games being Cardinals-Eagles, Bears-Vikings and Buccaneers-Panthers and the late games are Falcons-Bills and Rams-49ers. Continue reading for announcers and distribution splits for the NFL on Fox for week 13.

2013 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 13

When it be Thanksgiving, that means football and that means the Dallas Cowboys and this Turkey Day, CBS has itself the Cowboys hosting the Oakland Raiders at 4:30. And then this Sunday, CBS has got the doubleheader. In the early window, the games are Dolphins-Jets, Patriots-Texans, Titans-Colts and Jaguars-Browns. In the national window, the games are Broncos-Chiefs and Bengals-Chargers. Continue reading for distribution splits and the announcing assignments that come alongside for the NFL on CBS in week 13.

2013-14 Bowl Projections: Week 13

And now the BCS picture has changed once again with a pair of upsets from this past Saturday. Oregon, back in the driver's seat in the Pac-12 North after Stanford fell to USC the previous week, got creamed by Arizona in Tucson 42-16, and Baylor, everyone's darling to this point, saw their national championship hopes dashed on the road in Stillwater as they lost to Oklahoma State, 49-17. We still have a couple of weeks to shake things up further, so just about nothing is set in stone. Here are my latest bowl projections for the 2013-14 cycle.

2013 College Football Predictions: Week 14

While we sit down this Thanksgiving weekend for some fine Turducken action, how about we add on a little college football action on top? For several conferences, this is the final week before the conference championship games and for the others, there is still much to be decided, and as we know, the computers are always watching. And yet again, we have got all eyes on the Iron Bowl which has an enormous amount at stake on Saturday. Here are my predictions for week 14.

Listen to the full Mike Francesa interview with Alex Rodriguez

Sometimes the best radio comes out of nowhere and I think this specifically applies. After walking out of what he described as an "abusive" arbitration hearing, embattled Yankee Alex Rodriguez appeared with "New York's Numbah 1", Mike Francesa of WFAN and for the first time, abjectly and adamantly deny the most recent allegations of illegal performance-enhancing drug usage as well as take shots at the investigation by Major League Baseball and commissioner Bud Selig. Take a listen.

2013 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 12

The run to the 2013 NFL Playoffs is on as there are six more weeks until the field of 12 is set. Thanks to the good folks that bring us the Playoff Machine, here are my projections as to how the playoff picture is going to shape out over the balance of the regular season for week 12.

19 November 2013

2013-14 CBS College Basketball Schedule

The road to the Final Four continues this year on CBS, will a key broadcasting switch. Greg Anthony and Clark Kellogg will switch spots with Anthony becoming the new lead analyst while Kellogg will return to the studio while still doing a solid slate of regular season action. Here's the CBS schedule for the 2013-14 college basketball season, to be filled in with announcers all season long when confirmed.

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 12

Just when we thought the Buccaneers may have had a chance at 0-16, they go out and win two games in a row. Now nobody believes that Greg Schiano is going to keep his job because of this, or they are going to win out and get to .500, but at least there is something to live for with this club, I guess. And on that note, here are my picks for week 12.

18 November 2013

2013-14 Bowl Projections: Week 12

One week after their victory over the Oregon Ducks shaped up the BCS picture, the Stanford Cardinal were upset once again, this time at the hands of the USC Trojans. Now is Stanford out of the BCS picture altogether and is the Pac-12 in for another upheavel. Here are my bowl projections for after week 12.

17 November 2013

2013 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 12

There are six games on the docket on CBS this weekend and it is also a singleheader week for the Tiffany Network. The offerings at 1:00 are Chargers-Chiefs, Jaguars-Texans, Steelers-Browns and Jets-Ravens. The 4:05 games are Colts-Cardinals and Titans-Raiders. Continue reading for distribution splits and announcing assignments for the NFL on CBS.

2013 NFL on Fox Announcers & Distribution: Week 12

Fox Sports has a doubleheader this week and they even have the single game in the national window, something everybody loves. At 1:00, the games are Buccaneers-Lions, Vikings-Packers, Panthers-Dolphins and Bears-Rams. And at 4:25, the solo game is Cowboys-Giants. Continue reading for announcing assignments and distribution splits for the NFL on Fox.

2013 College Football Predictions: Week 13

Will Bryce Petty and the Baylor Bears ever have to sweat a game out? They may have to this week in Stillwater against the Oklahoma State Cowboys as this should be their toughest test of the season, as well as the biggest game of the year in the Big XII. Can Baylor keep their national title hopes alive? Or will the Cowboys take back control of the conference? Here are my picks for week 13.

16 November 2013

Donovan McNabb: Jimmie Johnson is "absolutely not" an athlete

As Jimmie Johnson is expected to win his sixth title in eight years in the Sprint Cup Series finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, the folks at Fox Sports Live were going to discuss where Johnson ranks among the top athletes of the past decade. However, Donovan McNabb nearly derailed the subject with his asinine comments saying that Johnson is "absolutely not" an athlete in my opinion. Let's go to the videotape.

Watch SportsZone - November 11, 2013

ATV's flagship sports show is back after an unexpected hiatus that was longer than expected but hey, who's counting? In this week's edition of SportsZone, we try to discuss the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito situation down in Miami, discuss the latest happenings in the world of futbol, wonder if we have seen the last of Johnny Manziel in College Station, break down how in the world have the 76ers looked as great as they have, look at AU Field Hockey winning the Patriot League title as well as, yes, break down the NASCAR finale at Homestead. Let's go to the videotape.

12 November 2013

2013 NFL Predictions: Week 11

Without question, the Kansas City Chiefs under Andy Reid have been the surprise of the 2013 NFL season as nobody expected them to be sitting here at 9-0. But now they are in for by far their toughest test of the season as they head to the Queen City of the West to take on the high-powered attack of the Broncos. Can the Chiefs keep their undefeated bid going or will the Broncos prove themselves to be the top club in the AFC West? Here are my predictions for week eleven.

11 November 2013

So the Atlanta Braves are going to leave Turner Field?

Come 2017, the Atlanta Braves are going to have a new home. As first reported by the Marietta Daily Journal and then confirmed by the club themselves on Twitter, a new stadium will be built in unincorporated Cobb County a short distance from downtown Atlanta near the intersection Interstates 75 and 285. The move will come with the conclusion of the team's lease at Turner Field and is expected to coincide with the completion of a new stadium for the Falcons.

This is a move by the team that nobody saw coming and while there are some positive benefits of what a new ballpark can do, I still have one main problem with all of this.

2013 NFL on Fox Announcers & Distribution: Week 11

Fox Sports has itself the doubleheader this Sunday as well as seven games on the slate across the two windows. In the 1:00 window, the games are Lions-Steelers, Falcons-Buccaneers, Washington-Eagles and Cardinals-Jaguars. The games in the 4:05 window are Packers-Giants, 49ers-Saints and Vikings-Seahawks. Continue reading for announcing assignments and distribution splits for the NFL on Fox this week.

10 November 2013

2013 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 11

CBS's slate for week 11 underwent something somewhat unprecedented when the flex was announced for this week by the NFL. The Tiffany Network had protected Chiefs-Broncos in the 4:05 slot but that ended up being flexed to NBC (the terms under which this went down are uncertain). Therefore, Chargers-Dolphins was moved to 4:05. It is a singleheader slate with the early games being Ravens-Bears, Browns-Bengals, Jets-Bills and Raiders-Texans. Continue reading for announcers and distribution for the NFL on CBS.

2013-14 Bowl Projections: Week 11

Is the BCS National Championship Game already set? Many folks think so after previously undefeated Oregon fell at the Farm to Stanford on Thursday night while both Alabama and Florida State rolled to impressive victories. But maybe do I have a surprise ready to go in Pasadena for all the marbles? Here are my bowl predictions for after week 11.
