Breaking down the Rockets' deal for James Harden

Breaking news in the world of the NBA as the Oklahoma City Thunder have traded shooting guard James Harden as well as center Cole Aldrich, guard Daequan Cook and forward Lazar Hayward to the Houston Rockets in exchange for shooting guard Kevin Martin, first round pick Jeremy Lamb, two first round selections (from Dallas and Toronto) and a second round selection (from Charlotte) in the 2013 NBA Draft. This was a quick turnaround for the Thunder after contract talks with Harden broke off earlier this afternoon. Here's my analysis of the late-breaking deal.

Today was Derek Dooley's last chance at Tennessee

Derek Dooley desperately needed a win in Columbia today. Dooley came into today's game against South Carolina with a 0-14 record against ranked teams and facing a Gamecocks club that was coming off two bad losses in a row made them ripe for a upset, seemingly. The Volunteers came close, rallying from a pair of 14 point deficits to pull within three halfway through the fourth quarter but it was not to be as quarterback Tyler Bray, who had had a brilliant game, was picked off on a desperation throw with less than a minute left. And now it appears that Dooley is done in Knoxville.

2012-13 NBA Predictions

It is that time of year, folks, so pump up the NBA Street Vol. 2 soundtrack because the 2012-2013 NBA season is right around the corner, and lockout free! The Heat finally put it all together and won the NBA title but the Lakers stole the show in the offseason by swinging trades for Dwight Howard and Steve Nash. Are Miami and Los Angeles due for a clash in the Finals? I think the Thunder may have something to say about that. Can a retooled Mavericks club make a run? Could an aging Celtics club have enough juice to challenge the Heat? Can San Antonio put together another excellent season? Can the Knicks finally put it all together? And what should we expect from Brooklyn?

It is time for my 2012-13 NBA predictions.

Did Stephen A. Smith drop the n-word on First Take this morning?

There was a discussion about Kobe Bryant on the train-wreck that is First Take when it appeared that Stephen A. Smith actually dropped the n-word. Did it happen? Let's go to the videotape.

New York Islanders moving to the Barclays Center in 2015

Lots of speculation about what an announcement with Gary Bettman, Islanders owner Charles Wang and New York mayor Mike Bloomberg at the Barclays Center would mean and it has been reported that the Islanders are set to start play in Brooklyn in 2015. Folks have speculated about this move ever since they broke ground in Atlantic Yards but now that it appears that it is happening, what does this mean going forward?

2012 NFL Week 8 Picks

Every year that Michael Vick has been with the Philadelphia Eagles, he and his club have gone down to Hotlanta and played the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome. Coincidence? Certainly not but that changes this year as Vick and Philadelphia host the Falcons this Sunday afternoon. For a club looking to make more waves in the NFC East, this is a big game for the Eagles who really need a statement victory. Atlanta is looking strong at 6-0 and look to keep the momentum rolling. Will they be able to?

These are my week eight NFL picks.

2012 World Series Predictions

And then there were two. The 2012 MLB season began in Tokyo eight months ago and there are two clubs whose dreams of a World Series championship are still alive. The Fall Classic kicks off tomorrow night in San Francisco. Will the Giants win their second World Series in three years and sixth overall or will the Tigers win their fifth title and their first since 1984?

Cam Newton needs to grow up

This morning, the Carolina Panthers fired general manager Marty Hurney, who had been the GM of the club since 2002. And it is all due to the man pictured above, quarterback Cam Newton who yesterday, after Carolina lost a tight one to Dallas to drop to 1-5, said he was not buying "the vibe" in Charlotte, that something is "going to have to change real fast" and most comically that he was "going to bring in a suggestion box and I want your suggestions...because I sure don't know." And apparently one of those suggestions was that Hurney had to lose his job.

But in totality, this is not about Hurney, who was going to lose his job after the season anyways, but it is about Newton, who has not shown nearly the attitude that a franchise quarterback has to have to succeed in the National Football League.

2012 NFL on FOX Announcers & Distribution: Week 8

Here's a fun fact for you, this is the first time that a Giants-Cowboys game has been on FOX since week ten of the 2010 season. So you can bet that the execs in Los Angeles are damn happy that they get to show Giants-Cowboys to almost everyone in the country in the national window this Sunday. Before that showdown in Arlington, fans will enjoy a very good early window of action with much of America getting Redskins-Steelers and others getting Falcons-Eagles, Panthers-Bears or Seahawks-Lions. Continue reading for announcing assignments and distribution splits for the NFL on FOX.

2012 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 8

London Calling, the NFL will be making its annual voyage across the pond to Wembley Stadium and showcasing American football as the Patriots and the Rams will go at it. The NFL on CBS has a singleheader this Sunday and most of America will get the game from England while others will get Jaguars-Packers, Dolphins-Jets, Chargers-Browns, Colts-Titans or the late game of Raiders-Chiefs. Continue reading for distribution splits as well as announcing assignments.

2012 College Football Week 9 Picks

In what will be the toughest test of their season thus far, Brian Kelly and his undefeated Fighting Irish head down to Norman to take on Oklahoma on Saturday night in what will be a statement game for both. For Notre Dame, it is the chance to continue their quest for a national championship. For the Sooners, it is the chance to get a fourth straight impressive victory following the disappointing loss at home to Kansas State. Who will come out on top this week in college football?

Watch the Saints' Joseph Morgan score in the most incredible fashion

Sometimes in the National Football League, we see plays that are so incredible that words do not give them enough credit. Case in point, this touchdown reception by Saints wideout Joseph Morgan against the Buccaneers. Let's go to the videotape.

2012-2013 Bowl Projections After Week 8

For the first time since losing to Wisconsin in the 1995 Hall of Fame Bowl, the Duke Blue Devils will be going to a bowl game after defeating their rivals North Carolina yesterday in Durham to win the Victory Bell. David Cutcliffe took over the program in 2008 after Duke had won 6 games over the prior four-plus years under Ted Roof and he has steadily built up this program to get back to a bowl game and who knows, maybe a trip to the ACC Championship Game (it isn't crazy).

It is time for the B-FLO 360 bowl projections after week eight.
