2012 MLB on FOX Announcers & Distribution: September 15th

We have ourselves some action being pushed on FOX Saturday Baseball this week. The Rays and the Yanks will battle as both are involved in the ever-tightening AL East race as well as in the Wild Card race in the Junior Circuit. The Nationals visit the Braves as the two top clubs in the NL East battle to solidify their positioning, Washington atop the division, Atlanta in the Wild Card. Plus the Tigers visit the hopeless Indians as they try to either get into the postseason by winning the Central or stealing a Wild Card spot. 2012 Chase for the Sprint Cup Predictions

After an awesome final race at Richmond, even with the rain delays, we finally have set the field for the Chase for the Sprint Cup as the above twelve drivers, most notably Jeff Gordon who raced his way in on Saturday night. Who will end up with the trophy at Homestead in November? Here are my Chase predictions.

Notre Dame to join the ACC

This new is just breaking but it has been reported that Notre Dame will join the Atlantic Coast Conference as a full member, with the exception of football, where it will remain independent. This is a big blow to the Big East, where Notre Dame had been a member since 1995, where it weakens further what had been one of the elite college basketball conferences, one that is already losing two of the league's perennial powers in Syracuse and Pittsburgh. Meanwhile the ACC becomes even stronger in hoops, where it is already adding Syracuse and Pittsburgh, and now becomes the clear elite basketball conference with a robust 15 programs.

Also noted in the contract is that the Fighting Irish will play five football games against ACC opponents every year once they join, which the earliest they can join without penalty is 2015, and they will play every ACC team at least once every 2.5 years. Plus the school will join the ACC bowl rotation. The school noted that they wanted to maintain a West Coast presence, continuing series against USC and Stanford, as well as continuing to play Navy every year as well. This could mean that the series against Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue could disappear.

2012 NFL Week 2 Picks

The Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers have played each other 184 teams over the courses of both franchises' history, first meeting 91 years ago at Wrigley Field. When these two clubs meet, the game always has an added significance but this matchup on Thursday evening carries a lot of meaning, as the Bears look to seize the division crown from Green Bay. Chicago looked strong in a week one blowout of Indianapolis while the Packers struggled and lost to San Francisco. Who will come out on top in this one?

My pick for that matchup and every other game of week 2, after the jump.

Can the Phillies pull the unthinkable and make the postseason?

For most of the 2012 MLB season, the Philadelphia Phillies were in last place in the NL East. Philadelphia sat at 37-51 after the All-Star break. They traded away most of their outfield in deadline moves and lost who was their best hitter this season, Carlos Ruiz, to the Disabled List. So naturally, they sit five games back of the Wild Card in the National League and are eleven games .500 since they sat at 37-51. Can they continue their hot streak and make the postseason?

Bill Simmons & Stan Van Gundy to be part of ESPN NBA studio crew

For the second year in a row, ESPN is revamping its NBA studio crew. Former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy as well as the "Sports Guy" Bill Simmons will be joining the studio show in Los Angeles, according to SportsbyBrooks. ESPN has been reportedly looking to mix up its studio crew as they have struggled for years to put together a quality studio show. Last year they made drastic changes, moving the show to Los Angeles and dropping the normal host, making Michael Wilbon the de facto host and adding reporter Chris Broussard but they did not really pan out. And I think these are two moves in the right direction.

Did Von Miller really 'Tebow' last night?

Von Miller played a huge roll in helping the Denver Broncos close out the Pittsburgh Steelers last night as he sacked Ben Roethlisberger twice on Pittsburgh's final drive, down twelve. The first sack, he invoked the greatest touchdown celebration of all time, Billy "White Shoes" Johnson's funky chicken. But the second sack? Let's go to the videotape.

2012 College Football Picks: Week 3

We got ourselves some quality games this week in college football with the marquee games being Florida-Tennessee, USC-Stanford and Notre Dame-Michigan State. Who will be victorious this week?

Watch Louisiana-Monroe upset Arkansas in overtime

Well the upset of the year thus far belongs to the Warhawks of Louisiana-Monroe, who upset the sixth-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks this evening in overtime in Little Rock. The Warhawks took advantage of star Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson suffering a potential concussion in the first half as well as a brilliant performance from their QB, Kolton Browning, who threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a touchdown. Browning also ran in a touchdown for the win in overtime when, needing a field goal for the tie, coach Todd Berry, who was aggressive all evening, elected to go for it on fourth-and-one and Browning scrambled in from 16 yards out for the win. Let's see Browning's winning run.
