Colorado wins the Pac-12 Tournament, headed to the 2012 NCAA Tournament

Even in the downtrodden Pac-12, nobody really thought that Tad Boyle and the sixth seeded Colorado Buffaloes would be a serious contender in the conference tournament in Los Angeles. But it was Boyle's club that surprised everyone en route to a Pac-12 Tournament Championship today by defeating the Arizona Wildcats, 53-51, in order to get the automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Buffs were led by freshman guard Spencer Dinwiddie who had 14 points and this will be their first appearance in March Madness since 2003.

Kevin Harlan, Dan Bonner and Kevin Harlan were on the call at Staples Center for CBS Sports and here's their game recap.

Lamar wins the Southland Tournament, going to the 2012 NCAA Tournament

Remember when Lamar coach Pat Knight absolutely lost his cool a few weeks ago in a postgame presser? Well something must have worked because the Cardinals have won every game since, including in the Southland Conference Tournament where today they smoked McNeese State 70-49 in order to advance to the 2012 NCAA tournament. This will be the Cardinals' first appearance in March Madness since 2000 and Knight's first ever as a head coach.

Vermont wins the America East Tournament, going to March Madness 2012

How again did Vermont lose to Binghamton? Anyways, for the fifth time ever the Catamounts from UVM are going dancing as today they went to Stony Brook and defeated the favored Seawolves by a 51-43 score to advance to March Madness. Vermont was led by Four McGlynn, who had 14 points to lead the team off the bench, and Brian Voelkel, who had five points, seven assists and fifteen rebounds.

This is Vermont first NCAA Tournament berth since 2010 and fifth since their first appearance back in 2003. They will find out who they will be trying to upset tomorrow on Selection Sunday.

Despite loss to Baylor, can Kansas hang onto a one seed?

Kansas was looking pretty solid in position for a top seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament before they lost last night to Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament Semifinals. Despite the loss, could they still hold on for a one seed?

Redskins trade up to 2nd overall pick in 2012 NFL Draft, in position for Robert Griffin III

Remember how I said that I thought that Peyton Manning would be signing with the Washington Redskins? Yeah that's all but dead now, not just because of how it's been said that Manning would prefer to stay in the AFC but also due to the point of this article, the news that the Redskins have engineered a trade with the St. Louis Rams in order to move up to the second overall pick to select the man pictured above, Robert Griffin III, in exchange for the Redskins' first round picks for the next three drafts (including the sixth in this year's draft) as well as a second rounder in this year's draft. Here's my breakdown.

2012 NFL Mock Draft: 10th Edition

Everybody wants to trade up for Robert Griffin III because so many teams need a franchise QB. I've had one team trading up for Griffin for a while now but now I have somebody different trading up for him. Let's take a look at my tenth mock draft for the 2012 NFL Draft.

Nick Young with the worst lay-up attempt ever

Well it's been a trying season for the Wizards with a cavalcade of comedic errors to boot. Add Nick Young's lay-up attempt to that list as he just threw it up hoping it would hit something. It did not. Let's go to the videotape.

LIU-Brooklyn wins the Northeast Conference Tourney, going to March Madness 2012

In the Northeast Conference Tournament Final tonight on the campus of Long Island University Brooklyn, it was the home Blackbirds that won a repeat NEC championship by defeating the Robert Morris Colonials, 88-73, and thus win the auto-bid to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Blackbirds led for much of the game and took the lead for good midway in the first half. They were led in scoring by junior guard C.J. Garner with 21.

The Blackbirds will find out who they are taking on in the Big Dance on Selection Sunday in four days.

Lehigh wins the Patriot League Tournament, going to 2012 NCAA Tournament

The two best teams in the Patriot League faced off in Bethlehelm, Pennsylvania on the campus of Bucknell University as the Lehigh Mountain Hawks and the Bucknell Bison faced off with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line. And it was Lehigh, led by their star guard C.J. McCollum who led the way with 29 points and impressed the NBA scouts who were in attendance, that won the Patriot League Tournament tonight with a 82-77 final. Lehigh swept the games they played at Bucknell and thus the 2010 conference champions knocked off the 2011 conference champions to head to March Madness.

Bob Socci and Vince Curran were on the call for CBS Sports Network and they have the game recap from the Sojka Pavilion.

The effect Peyton Manning's decision will have on the 2012 NFL Draft

Peyton Manning is the biggest free agent in a long time to hit the market, probably in my lifetime (contrary to popular opinion, I was not born during the Ford administration but rather the late days of the H.W. administration). And wherever he signs this offseason, it will have a major impact on the 2012 NFL Draft. Here's why.

Watch clips from Peyton Manning's debut with the Indianapolis Colts

As noted before, it's the end of an era for the Colts as they have released Peyton Manning, official as of today (Watch the press conference). And thus, let's take a look at some highlights from Manning's NFL debut with the Colts, back in the old RCA Dome, on September 6, 1998 against the Miami Dolphins, a team widely expected to be a favorite for Manning.

Watch the press conference announcing the release of Peyton Manning by the Indianapolis Colts

It was a momentous day for the Indianapolis Colts franchise as they announced that Peyton Manning, their starting quarterback for his whole career thus far since 1998, will no longer be their quarterback and will be released. Both owner Jim Irsay and Manning himself showed a lot of emotion and class throughout the press conference, showing how difficult this decision must have been. Let's go to the videotape.

Western Kentucky wins Sun Belt Tournament, heading to 2012 NCAA Tournament

The Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky are going dancin'. For the first time since 2009, WKU is headed to the NCAA Tournament after they shocked everyone in the Sun Belt Tournament to steal the league's auto-bid by winning four games in four days and the seventh seeded Hilltoppers finished their run by defeating the North Texas Mean Green, 74-70 in the tournament final. This is the magic of March, eh?

Detroit captures Horizon League Tournament, headed to 2012 NCAA Tournament

For the first time since the glorious year of 1999, Ray McCallum's Detroit Titans are going dancing. Tonight they captured the Horizon League Tournament by defeating the Crusaders of Valparaiso on the road 68-50. The Titans were led by the coach's talented son, Ray McCallum Jr., who had 19 points to lead his team to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. They will find out who they will take on in March Madness this coming Sunday.

South Dakota State wins the Summit League Tourney, going to the 2012 NCAA Tournament

It was a grinder in Sioux Falls this evening in the 2012 Summit League Tournament Final between the Leathernecks of Western Illinois and the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State and it was the favorite that came out on top as SDSU won a tight one, 52-50. The pictured Nate Wolters, the Jackrabbits' leading scorer, led State in scoring with 14 points as they were able to hold on against a pesky Leatherneck club.

The Jackrabbits will find out who they will be playing in the Big Dance this coming Sunday in their first ever appearance in March Madness.

Harvard wins the Ivy League, headed to March Madness 2012

It was one year ago that Tommy Amaker's Harvard Crimson saw their hope of getting into the NCAA tournament dashed by the Princeton Tigers in a one-game playoff for the Ivy League. But it's the Tigers from Princeton that sealed Harvard's tournament crown and their first appearance in the NCAA tournament since 1946 by defeating the Pennsylvania Quakers tonight 62-52, preventing another one game playoff.

The Crimson will find out who they will play in the Big Dance this Sunday as it will be Selection Sunday.

Peyton Manning to be released by the Colts, what's next?

Tell me you saw this coming twelve months ago, even as it seemed inevitable over the last couple of months. The Peyton Manning era in Indianapolis is over as ESPN has reported that the Colts will announce that they will cut him tomorrow. After missing all of 2011 after having his third neck surgery in 19 months, the Colts could not afford to pay Manning and pay presumptive top pick Andrew Luck, especially as there are concerns about how healthy Manning is. So now the question is, where is Manning heading now?

The Timberwolves as a sitcom? YES

This may be the greatest thing I have ever seen. No surprise that it is relating to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have put out some great stuff but this has to take the cake. Whoever put this together, I owe them a 12-pack because this is brilliant. Let's go to the videotape.

Davidson wins the Southern Conference Tournament, headed to March Madness 2012

The best game of the day BY FAR was in Asheville in the Southern Conference Tournament Final as the showdown between the Western Caroluna Catamounts and the Davidson Wildcats ended in double overtime with Davidson coming out on top, 93-91 to receive the auto bid from the SoCon to the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats showed balance all over their offensive with five scorers in double digits.

And the best thing from the game was Dikembe Mutombo's reactions. Priceless.

Saint Mary's wins the WCC Tournament, going to March Madness 2012

It was one hell of a championship game in the West Coast Tournament between two great rivals in the Gonzaga Bulldogs and the Saint Mary's Gaels. The definition of a back and forth classic, this bad boy ended in overtime with the Gaels ending out on top, 78-74, and avenging their loss in the WCC final to the Zags a year ago. While both clubs are tournament bound, they sure played with something to prove and it resulted in a classic. The Gaels were led by their brilliant point guard Matthew Dellavedova who had 22 points while the Bulldogs were led by forward Elias Harris, who had 22 as well.

These clubs will find out where they are headed this Sunday as it is Selection Sunday.

Loyola wins the MAAC Tournament, going to March Madness 2012

When Jimmy Patsos took over as head coach of the Greyhounds of Loyola University Maryland in 2004, they were coming off a one win season. Now they are going to the 2012 NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1994 after defeating the Fairfield Stags by a 48-44 score in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship this evening in Springfield, Mass. The Greyhounds came out on top of this grinder with only one scorer in double digits but it was their ace, the junior forward Erik Etherly.

Who will Loyola play in the Big Dance? They will find out in six days.

VCU wins the CAA Tournament, headed back to March Madness 2012

Shaka Smart and the Rams of Virginia Commonwealth faced a tough test to have a chance at repeating at last year's shocking Final Four run in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament final as the Drexel Dragons came in on a sixteen game winning streak. Even with VCU leading at the half by 16, the Dragons were never out of it and rallied late to come without one. But they were not able to overcome the Rams, who came out on top 59-56 to get the automatic bid from the CAA while the Dragons have to sweat out Selection Sunday in five days.

2012 NCAA Tournament: Predicting Announcer Assignments for Rounds 2-3 (3rd Edition)

Selection Sunday is this Sunday, ladies and gentlemen. And I know you all out there are really excited, as am I, particularly since I will be able to watch the Selection Show which I was not able to next year. Here is my third and final look at where the announcing crews will be assigned for rounds 2-3 in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Creighton wins the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, headed to 2012 NCAA Tournament

It was one wild, hard fought championship game in the Missouri Valley Tournament in St. Louis in which the Creighton Bluejays and the Illinois State Redbirds fought tooth and nail, but it was the Blue Jays that came out on top 83-79 in overtime. Creighton was led as always by MVC Player of the Year Doug McDermott, who led the club with 33 points as the Redbirds seemingly had no way to slow him down.

They take the automatic bid from the MVC to get into March Madness, their first tournament appearance since 2007, but they were going to get a bid regardless while Illinois State is not so that means that teams on the bubble will breath a collective sigh of relief.

Tim Brando and Mike Gminski were on the call at the Scottrade Center and here's the game recap.
