2012 College Football Week 9 Picks

In what will be the toughest test of their season thus far, Brian Kelly and his undefeated Fighting Irish head down to Norman to take on Oklahoma on Saturday night in what will be a statement game for both. For Notre Dame, it is the chance to continue their quest for a national championship. For the Sooners, it is the chance to get a fourth straight impressive victory following the disappointing loss at home to Kansas State. Who will come out on top this week in college football?
AP Poll rankings

Tuesday, October 23
Arkansas State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (ESPN2, 8:00)
Couple of high-powered Belt offenses, but I think the underrated homefield advantage of Cajun Field is the difference.
Pick: Louisiana-Lafayette

Thursday, October 25
(14) Clemson vs. Wake Forest (ESPN, 7:30)
Jim Grobe is doing another good job with the Deacons, but they don't have nearly the firepower.
Pick: Clemson

Friday, October 26
Cincinnati vs. Louisville (ESPN2, 8:00)
One of the biggest games of the Big East season, Cincinnati's strong running game and the fact that Louisville always plays close games no matter who they play will result in an upset.
Pick: Cincinnati

Nevada vs. Air Force (CBS Sports Network, 8:00)
Pick: Nevada

Saturday, October 27
Tennessee vs. (17) South Carolina (ESPN, 12:00)
The Cocks need a victory badly, and fortunately, the're taking on the Vols.
Pick: South Carolina

Iowa vs. Northwestern (ESPN2, 12:00)
Some Iowa fans dressed up as Sandusky on Saturday evening. Well, that's nice.
Pick: Northwestern

Kentucky vs. Missouri (ESPNU, 12:00)
No matter how bad Kentucky is, any time Missouri wins it is ugly.
Pick: Missouri

Texas vs. Kansas (FSN, 12:00)
Pick: Texas

Indiana vs. Illinois (BTN, 12:00)
Pick: Indiana

Ball State vs. Army (CBS Sports Network, 12:00)
Pick: Ball State

Ole Miss vs. Arkansas (SEC Network, 12:00)
Arkansas put together a couple of quality wins in a row but I'm liking this Ole Miss offense of Hugh Freeze.
Pick: Ole Miss

Temple vs. Pittsburgh (Big East Network, 12:00)
Pick: Temple

Northern Illinois vs. Western Michigan (ESPN+, 12:00)
Pick: Northern Illinois

NC State vs. North Carolina (FSN regional, 12:30)
Pick: North Carolina

Southern Miss vs. Rice (CSS, 1:00)
Pick: Rice

Maryland vs. Boston College (ESPN3, 1:00)
Pick: Maryland

Utah State vs. Texas-San Antonio (ESPN3, 2:00)
Pick: Utah State

UCLA vs. Arizona State (FX, 3:00)
I have no confidence if ASU's defense.
Pick: UCLA

BYU vs. Georgia Tech (FSN regional, 3:00)
Pick: BYU

Colorado vs. (2) Oregon (Pac-12 Network, 3:00)
Pick: Oregon

Memphis vs. SMU (Time Warner-Texas, 3:00)
Pick: SMU

(3) Florida vs. (12) Georgia (CBS, 3:30)
Florida has been looking damn impressive and while I do like Georgia a lot, they're coming off the blowout to South Carolina and a close win over Kentucky.
Pick: Florida

(15) Texas Tech vs. (4) Kansas State (FOX, 3:30)
Can Tommy Tuberville and Seth Doege pull off another top five upset? You know what? I think yes as I am loving what Doege has been doing plus I think Tech's defense can slow down Collin Klein just enough.
Pick: Texas Tech

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30)
The Spartans have pretty much nothing on offense, save for Le'Veon Bell. That will not cut it.
Pick: Wisconsin

(10) USC vs. Arizona (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30)
Pick: USC

Duke vs. (11) Florida State (ESPNU, 3:30)
Duke is riding high and will be playing with nothing to lose. Give me FSU, but they better watch out.
Pick: Florida State

TCU vs. Oklahoma State (FSN, 3:30)
We will see offense and plenty of it in Stillwater. But here's some lazy analysis here but TCU lost to Iowa State by 14 and OSU beat Iowa State by 21.
Pick: Oklahoma State

(21) Boise State vs. Wyoming (CBS Sports Network, 3:30)
Pick: Boise State

Purdue vs. Minnesota (BTN, 3:30)
Pick: Purdue

Navy vs. East Carolina (FCS, 3:30)
Pick: East Carolina

Ohio vs. Miami (OH) (STO, 3:30)
The Bobcats have not won any games against FBS in impressive fashion and that streak will continue.
Pick: Ohio

Kent State vs. (18) Rutgers (Big East Network, 3:30)
Rutgers really is not that good and they will struggle with a solid Golden Flashes club until late.
Pick: Rutgers

Fresno State vs. New Mexico (Time Warner Sportsnet, 3:30)
Pick: New Mexico

Eastern Michigan vs. Bowling Green (BCSN, 3:30)
Pick: Bowling Green

Pick: Middle Tennessee

UTEP vs. Houston (CSS, 4:30)
Pick: Houston

(9) Ohio State vs. Penn State (ESPN, 5:30)
This game will be closer than some expect, mostly because somehow, Matt McGloin turned into a solid quarterback this year.
Pick: Ohio State

Western Kentucky vs. FIU (ESPN3, 5:30)
Pick: Western Kentucky

Washington State vs. (19) Stanford (Pac-12 Network, 6:15)
Pick: Stanford

Pick: Texas A&M

Baylor vs. Iowa State (FSN, 7:00)
Pick: Iowa State

UMass vs. Vanderbilt (FSN regional, 7:00)
Pick: Vanderbilt

Hawaii vs. Colorado State (KTVD & Oceanic Pay-Per-View, 7:00)
Pick: Colorado State

(5) Notre Dame vs. (8) Oklahoma (ABC, 8:00)
I think the struggling Irish offense will come back to hurt them in Norman against a Oklahoma club that seems to have their groove back, like Stella.

(20) Michigan vs. Nebraska (ESPN2, 8:00)
Michigan's defense is finding its groove and will shut down Taylor Martinez.
Pick: Michigan

UCF vs. Marshall (CBS Sports Network, 8:00)
Pick: UCF

UNLV vs. San Diego State (Time Warner SportsNet, 8:00)
Pick: San Diego State

(24) Louisiana Tech vs. New Mexico State (Aggie Vision, 8:00)
Pick: Louisiana Tech

(13) Mississippi State vs. (1) Alabama (ESPN, 8:30)
I'm feeling Mississippi State for the upset. Actually I'm not, just trying to elicit a reaction. But maybe if the game was in Starkville...
Pick: Mississippi State

California vs. Utah (Pac-12 Network Bay Area & Mountain, 9:45)
Pick: Utah

(7) Oregon State vs. Washington (Pac-12 Network, 10:15)
Can Seattle be upset city? I think not, but this will be a whale of a game for the Beavers
Pick: Oregon State
