2012 College Football Week 6 Picks

We've got ourselves a troika of high profile collegiate matchups this Saturday. Coming off an incredibly absurd offensive showing against Baylor, Geno Smith and the high-flying Mountaineers of West Virginia look to prove their competitiveness going into Austin as the Longhorns themselves are playing very well and are coming off a big victory in Stillwater. In the SEC, the game of the year for the SEC East will be in Columbia as both Georgia and South Carolina are looking strong and also looking to get a shot at winning the SEC. And in Columbus, the Cornhuskers will look for a second straight strong Big Ten victory against a Ohio State club that is playing very well.

It is time, ladies and gents, for my college football week six picks.
AP Rankings

Thursday, October 4th
Arkansas State vs. FIU (ESPNU, 7:30)
Pick: Arkansas State

East Carolina vs. UCF (CBS Sports Network, 8:00)
Pick: UCF

(13) USC vs. Utah (ESPN, 9:00)
Pick: USC

Friday, October 5th
Pittsburgh vs. Syracuse (ESPN, 7:00)
Pick: Pittsburgh

Utah State vs. BYU (ESPN, 10:15)
Pick: BYU

Saturday, October 6th
Navy vs. Air Force (CBS, 11:30)
Nothing like the classic 9:30 local kickoff.
Pick: Air Force

(24) Northwestern vs. Penn State (ESPN, 12:00)
Kain Colter is a stud and the Wildcats are making it seem like a run at the Rose Bowl is not out of the question. The Nittany Lions will give it a gobut ultimately come up short as their offense is not as good as Northwestern's is.
Pick: Northwestern

Arkansas vs. Auburn (ESPN2, 12:00)
You'd be hardpressed to find somebody who does not believe the Razorbacks have given up.
Pick: Auburn

Kansas vs. (7) Kansas State (FX, 12:00)
Pick: Kansas State

Michigan State vs. Indiana (BTN, 12:00)
Pick: Michigan State

UConn vs. Rutgers (ESPNU, 12:00)
Pick: Rutgers

Boise State vs. Southern Miss (FSN, 12:00)
Pick: Boise State

(20) Mississippi State vs. Kentucky (SEC Network, 12:00)
Pick: Mississippi State

Boston College vs. Army (CBS Sports Network, 12:00)
Pick: Boston College

USF vs. Temple (Big East Network, 12:00)
Pick: USF

Buffalo vs. Ohio (ESPN+, 12:00)
Ohio suffered a scare against UMass last Saturday, shouldn't happen again.
Pick: Ohio

Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina (ACC Network, 12:30)
The Hokies are coming off two losses to Big East schools but I think they can rally this week in Chapel Hill against an inconsistent UNC club.
Pick: Virginia Tech

Arizona vs. (18) Stanford (FOX, 3:00)
The Cardinal got upset last Thursday night but their physicality and their strong defense should propel them past an Arizona team that is trending downward.
Pick: Stanford

Virginia vs. Duke (FSN Regional, 3:00)
Pick: Duke

Central Michigan vs. Toledo (ESPN3, 3:00)
Pick: Toledo

Northern Illinois vs. Ball State (ESPN3, 3:00)
Pick: Ball State

(4) LSU vs. (10) Florida (CBS, 3:30)
The Tigers are coming off two less than stellar performances and I am not completely solid on quarterback Zach Mettenberger. I think a Florida club that has been playing well and coming off an off week will pull the upset at home.
Pick: Florida

(17) Oklahoma vs. (24) Texas Tech (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30)
Can the Red Raiders pull off the upset for the second year in a row? I'm not counting on it, but don't count it out.
Pick: Oklahoma

Illinois vs. Wisconsin (ABC, ESPN2, 3:30)
As we saw on Saturday, the Fighting Illini are really, really bad.
Pick: Wisconsin

Georgia Tech vs. (15) Clemson (ESPN, 3:30)
Georgia Tech is a disaster. No BCS team should lose by 21 to Middle Tennessee State, who lose to McNeese State.
Pick: Clemson

Wake Forest vs. Maryland (ESPNU, 3:30)
Pick: Maryland

Iowa State vs. TCU (FSN, 3:30)
Pick: TCU

Tulsa vs. Marshall (CBS Sports Network, 3:30)
Pick: Marshall

UL-Monroe vs. Middle Tennessee (Sun Belt Network, 3:30)
Pick: UL-Monroe

Michigan vs. Purdue (BTN, 4:00)
Purdue is a better club than you would realize, Michigan better watch out.
Pick: Michigan

New Mexico State vs. Idaho (KTRV, 5:00)
Pick: Idaho

Tulane vs. UL-Lafayette (Cox-Louisiana, 5:00)
Pick: UL-Lafayette

Washington State vs. (14) Oregon State (Pac-12 Network, 6:00)
Pick: Oregon State

Texas State
vs. New Mexico (Comcast-New Mexico, 6:00)
Pick: New Mexico

(8) West Virginia vs. (11) Texas (FOX, 7:00)
I've been going back and forth in this one. I don't think Geno Smith will put up the numbers he had against Baylor obviously and I think the game will depend on who gets a stop. I have much more confidence in the excellent Texas D than the inconsistent WVU D.
Pick: Texas

(5) Georgia vs. (6) South Carolina (ESPN, 7:00)
This is another that I've waffled on as I think both teams are pretty equal on paper. I hate being this game but I think that this game being played at the Cockpit will give the edge to the Gamecocks.
Pick: South Carolina

Texas A&M vs. Ole Miss (ESPNU, 7:00)
Pick: Texas A&M

Vanderbilt vs. Missouri (SEC Network, 7:00)
The Tigers have really looked unimpressive and they'll be upset by Vandy here.
Pick: Vanderbilt

Rice vs. Memphis (FOX College Sports, 7:00)
Pick: Rice

UNLV vs. Louisiana Tech (ESPN+, 7:00)
Pick: Louisiana Tech

North Texas vs. Houston (CSS, 7:00)
Pick: Houston

Miami (OH) vs. Cincinnati (FS Ohio, 7:00)
Pick: Cincinnati

Fresno State vs. Colorado State (KTVD & Time Warner-LA, 7:00)
Pick: Fresno State

Miami (FL) vs. (9) Notre Dame (NBC, 7:30)
Notre Dame really shouldn't lose because the Canes are really not that good.
Pick: Notre Dame

(21) Nebraska vs. (12) Ohio State (ABC, 8:00)
This should be a showdown of exciting quarterbacks in OSU's Braxton Miller and UN's Taylor Martinez. I was a little woried with how the Huskers struggled with Wisconsin and I think the Buckeyes are rolling right now.
Pick: Ohio State

(3) Florida State vs. NC State (ESPN2, 8:00)
The Wolfpack will keep it close but they don't have the horses the Seminoles have.
Pick: Florida State

Hawaii vs. San Diego State (CBS Sports Network, 8:00)
Pick: San Diego State

SMU vs. UTEP (Time Warner-Texas, 8:00)
Pick: SMU

(25) UCLA vs. Cal (Pac-12 Network, 10:00)
Pick: UCLA

(23) Washington vs. (2) Oregon (ESPN, 10:30)
Keith Price will keep Washington in it for a little more in a half, but their defense is not fast enough for the Ducks.
Pick: Oregon
