2012 College Football Week 2 Picks

We are just getting into the 2012 College Football season as we are now in the second week. There are not many huge matchups like we had last week with the Michigan-Alabama showdown but we do have two intriguing SEC matchups featuring the two new members of conference, Texas A&M and Missouri, hosting two established conference powers, with Florida going to Kyle Field in College Station and Georgia going to Faurot Field in Columbia. Here are my week 2 predictions.
AP Poll Rankings

Thursday, September 6th
Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati (ESPN, 8:00)
Pick: Pittsburgh

Friday, September 7th
Utah vs. Utah State (ESPN2, 8:00)
Pick: Utah

Saturday, September 8th
Penn State vs. Virginia (ABC, 12:00)

Auburn vs. Mississippi State (ESPN, 12:00)
Dan Mullen has done a great job in Starkville but he is still not quite there with the talent. But these are the games that Mississippi State almost win.
Pick: Auburn

UCF vs. (14) Ohio State (ESPN2, 12:00)
The Buckeyes could be in for a surprising test in the Horseshoe with the Knights, who have themselves a solid team. The Buckeyes will win, but it will not be a drubbing.
Pick: Ohio State

Maryland vs. Temple (ESPNU, 12:00)
Could the Owls repeat last year's embarrasing loss for Maryland? Well it won't be a beatdown again, the Owls will be able to pull out the victory at home.
Pick: Temple

Miami (FL) vs. (21) Kansas State (FX, 12:00)
Collin Klein will give the Hurricanes fits all afternoon long in Manhattan.
Pick: Kansas State

The Falcons' excellent rushing attack will keep the score closer than you expect.
Pick: Michigan

(2) USC vs. Syracuse (ABC, 3:30)
Pick: USC

(24) Florida vs. Texas A&M (ESPN, 3:30)
Florida's quarterback controversy aside, the excellent Gator defense will get them this victory and spoil the 12th Man's SEC debut.
Pick: Florida

(11) Michigan State vs. Central Michigan (ESPNU, 3:30)
Yes, the Spartans will be going to Mount Pleasant.
Pick: Michigan State

Rice vs. Kansas (FSN, 3:30)

Savannah State vs. (6) Florida State (ESPN3, 6:00)
Pick: Florida State

Akron vs. FIU (ESPN3, 6:00)
Pick: FIU

Fresno State vs. (4) Oregon (Pac-12 Network, 6:30)
Pick: Oregon

Washington vs. (3) LSU (ESPN, 7:00)
I love Washington quarterback Keith Price but the Huskies are not good enough on offense to deal with the loaded LSU defense plus their defense is a real mess.
Pick: LSU

Louisiana-Monroe vs. (8) Arkansas (ESPNU, 7:00)
Pick: Arkansas

UTEP vs. Ole Miss (FSN, 7:00)
Pick: Ole Miss

Grambling vs. TCU (Fox Sports Southwest, 7:00)

Pick: Texas Tech

Memphis vs. Arkansas State (ESPN3, 7:00)
Pick: Arkansas State

(16) Nebraska vs. UCLA (FOX, 7:30)
Jim Mora would love to have a statement win to mark his short tenure in Westwood. Could happen but I am not betting on it, however.
Pick: Nebraska

Army vs. San Diego State (NBC Sports Network, 7:30)
Pick: San Diego State

Kent State vs. Kentucky (CSS, 7:30)
Pick: Kentucky

(7) Georgia vs. Missouri (ESPN2, 7:45)
I have some friends (and this guy) that will be at this game and I know they will be hoping for a Mizzou upset. And Joe Tessitore is calling this game. But I think that Aaron Murray will torch this Tigers defense and I don't think that James Franklin can keep up with the aerial fireworks.
Pick: Georgia

Louisiana Tech vs. Houston (CBS Sports, Network, 8:00)
There will be a whole lot of offense in this game but I think that the Bulldog offense has more juice.
Pick: Louisiana Tech

Vanderbilt vs. Northwestern (BTN, 8:00)
Nerds unite! All kidding aside, this will be a solid quarterback matchup of Jordan Rodgers and Kain Colter but Vandy's defense is much better than the Wildcats'.
Pick: Vanderbilt

New Mexico vs. Texas (Longhorn Network, 8:00)
Pick: Texas

Stephen F. Austin vs. SMU (Time Warner-Texas, 8:00)
Pick: SMU

Illinois vs. Arizona State (ESPN, 10:30)
Pick: Illinois

(18) Oklahoma State vs. Arizona (Pac-12 Network, 10:30)
RichRod has his first test in his return to coaching but I see more skill position talent from the Cowboys.
Pick: Oklahoma State

Duke vs. (25) Stanford (Pac-12 Network, 10:30)
Stanford really struggled to beat San Jose State last weekend and Andrew Luck's replacement, Josh Nunes, did not look impressive at all. Originally I had Stanford but now I am going with the upset and the Blue Devils. Call me crazy? Call me maybe?
Pick: Duke
