2012 College Football Picks: Week 5

There are only two matchups of undefeated clubs in week 5 of the 2012 College Football season and both are in the Big XII. Not many will be surprised that both Baylor and West Virginia are undefeated, they should be lighting up scoreboards at noon, but how about both Texas Tech and Iowa State, both sitting at 4-0? How about that?

Who will win those two key conference matchups as well as every other game this week? Here are my college football predictions for week 5.

AP Poll rankings

Thursday, September 27th
(8) Stanford vs. Washington (ESPN, 9:00)
Like I have said before, I love Washington's quarterback Keith Price and he will keep them in the game. but Stanford's physicality and their strong defense gives them a slight edge. It will be close.
Pick: Stanford

Friday, September 28th
Hawaii vs. BYU (ESPN, 8:00)
Pick: BYU

Saturday, September 29th
(9) West Virginia vs. (25) Baylor (FX, 12:00)
There could be 100 combined points in this game. Why I have to go with the Mountaineers is that I have real concerns about the Baylor defense.
Pick: West Virginia

Penn State vs. Illinois (ESPN, 12:00)
Pick: Illinois

Minnesota vs. Iowa (ESPN2, 12:00)
I think the Gophers are taking a step in the right direction but I would be surprised if Iowa was upset once again.
Pick: Iowa

NC State vs. Miami (FL) (ESPNU, 12:00)
The Canes got a big victory last week against Georgia Tech but I do not see that happening again because I feel that the Wolfpack are a better club than the Yellow Jackets.
Pick: NC State

Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (SEC Network, 12:00)
It just gets worse for John L. Smith, who could get fired after this one.
Pick: Texas A&M

Indiana vs. Northwestern (BTN, 12:00)
Pick: Northwestern

Missouri vs. UCF (FSN, 12:00)
Pick: Missouri

Stony Brook vs. Army (CBS Sports Network, 12:00)
Pick: Army

Middle Tennessee vs. Georgia Tech (ACC Regional Network, 12:00)
Pick: Georgia Tech

Buffalo vs. UConn (Big East Network, 12:00)
Pick: UConn

Ball State vs. Kent State (ESPN+, 12:00)
Pick: Kent State

Duke vs. Wake Forest (ACC Network, 12:00)
Pick: Duke

Colorado State vs. Air Force (Altitude Sports Network, 2:00)
Pick: Air Force

Nevada vs. Texas State (Longhorn Network, 2:00)
Pick: Nevada

Miami (OH) vs. Akron (ESPN3, 2:00)
Pick: Miami (OH)

Tennessee vs. (5) Georgia (CBS, 3:30)
The Bulldogs are on a roll right now and while Tennessee will keep it close early, it will get blown open in the second half.
Pick: Georgia

(14) Ohio State vs. (20) Michigan State (ABC, 3:30)
I love how the Spartans run the ball but their offense is just not explosive. Braxton Miller has been incredible this season and I think his explosiveness will career the Buckeyes.
Pick: Ohio State

(17) Clemson vs. Boston College (ESPN2, 3:30)
Pick: Clemson

Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati (ESPNU, 3:30)
Pick: Virginia Tech

Marshall vs. Purdue (BTN, 3:30)
Pick: Purdue

Houston vs. Rice (FSN, 3:30)
Pick: Rice

San Jose State vs. Navy (CBS Sports Network, 3:30)
Pick: San Jose State

Idaho vs. North Carolina (ACC Regional Network, 3:30)
Pick: North Carolina

Troy vs. South Alabama (Sun Belt Network, 3:30)
Pick: Troy

UL-Monroe vs. Tulane (CST, 3:30)
Pick: UL-Monroe

Rhode Island vs. Bowling Green (BCSN, 3:30)
Pick: Bowling Green

Central Michigan vs. Northern Illinois (ESPN3, 3:30)
Pick: Northern Illinois

Ohio vs. UMass (ESPN3, 3:30)
Pick: Ohio

Arizona State vs. Cal (FX, 4:00)
Pick: Cal

North Texas vs. FAU (ESPN3, 5:00)
Pick: FAU

(4) Florida State vs. USF (ESPN, 6:00)
Letdown for FSU? Don't count on it.
Pick: Florida State

UCLA vs. Colorado (Pac-12 Network, 6:00)
Colorado got a nice victory, but they are still bad.
Pick: UCLA

(24) Boise State vs. New Mexico (KTVB & Comcast-New Mexico, 6:00)
Pick: Boise State

(6) South Carolina vs. Kentucky (ESPN2, 7:00)
Pick: South Carolina

Towson vs. (3) LSU (ESPNU, 7:00)
Pick: LSU

(15) TCU vs. SMU (FSN, 7:00)
Pick: TCU

Texas Tech vs. Iowa State (FOX College Sports, 7:00)
Neither of these teams have really played anybody (although you could make a case for Tulsa in ISU's opener) but I think that the underrated Cyclones defense will prove to be just enough.
Pick: Iowa State

UTEP vs. East Carolina (WITN, 7:00)
Pick: East Carolina

Toledo vs. Western Michigan (ESPN3, 7:00)
It's a shame this Maction is internet-only.
Pick: Toledo

FIU vs. UL-Lafayette (ESPN3, 7:00)
Pick: UL-Lafayette

Western Kentucky vs. Arkansas State (ESPN3, 7:00)
Pick: Western Kentucky

(12) Texas vs. Oklahoma State (FOX, 7:30)
Whoever will start at quarterback for the Cowboys will have trouble with Texas's fantastic defense.
Pick: Texas

Wisconsin vs. (22) Nebraska (ABC, 8:00)
Again, I still have no confidence in the Badgers. Nebraska did lose to UCLA a couple weeks back but they do have a productive quarterback, unlike Wisconsin right now.
Pick: Nebraska

(19) Louisville vs. Southern Miss (CBS Sports Network, 8:00)
The Cardinals could very well be upset if they are not ready.
Pick: Louisville

UTSA vs. New Mexico State (Aggie Vision, 8:00)
Pick: New Mexico State

UNLV vs. Utah State (ESPN3, 8:00)
Pick: Utah State

Ole Miss vs. (1) Alabama (ESPN, 9:15)
The Rebels got blown out by the only good team they played. Not a good sign going into Tuscaloosa.
Pick: Alabama

(18) Oregon State vs. Arizona (Pac-12 Network, 10:00)
Arizona's offense was so disappointing Saturday night against Oregon and they will struggle a little more with a really good OSU defense.
Pick: Oregon State

San Diego State vs. Fresno State (KUSI, 10:00)
Pick: Fresno State

(2) Oregon vs. Washington State (ESPN2, 10:30)
I'm sorry, but Wazzu just lost to Colorado.
Pick: Oregon
