2012 College Football Week 1 Picks

The 2012 College Football season gets underway this week and the one game that everyone is looking at is the Cowboys Classic as the Michigan Wolverines take on the Alabama Crimson Tide down in Arlington as both clubs look to get to the BCS National Championship Game and a win in this game will go a long way towards those title dreams.

Here are my picks for every game in week 1.

AP Poll rankings

Thursday, August 30
(9) South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt (ESPN, 7:00)
If the Gamecocks do not watch out, this Vandy club could pull the upset at home. But I can't see the Commodores slowing down SC's awesome running game.
Pick: South Carolina

Towson vs. Kent State (CSN Mid-Atlantic +, 7:00)
Pick: Kent State

UCF vs. Akron (ESPN3, 7:00)
Pick: UCF

Eastern Michigan vs. Ball State (ESPN3, 7:00)
Pick: Eastern Michigan

Pick: Minnesota

Friday, August 31
Villanova vs. Temple (ESPN3, 7:00)
Pick: Temple

NC State vs. Tennessee (ESPNU, 7:30)
Tennessee is on the rise but the Wolfpack are the clear better squad. Tyler Bray will have the Vols in it, though.
Pick: NC State

(24) Boise State vs. (13) Michigan State (ESPN, 8:00)
I really like this Spartans team so unless Joe Southwick does his best Kellen Moore impersonation, the home team will win.
Pick: Michigan State

Wagner vs. FAU (ESPN3, 8:00)
Pick: FAU

San Jose State vs. (21) Stanford (Pac-12 Network, 10:00)
Pick: Stanford

Sat., September 1
Notre Dame vs. Navy (CBS, 9:00 am)
Nothing like the classic game in Ireland at 9 in the morning. And hey, may the Fighting Irish finally have a stable quarterback situation with Everett Golson?
Pick: Notre Dame

Ohio vs. Penn State (ESPN, 12:00)
I might have picked the Bobcats even before the NCAA dropped the hammer on Penn State and most of the top players defected, they are that good.
Pick: Ohio

Northwestern vs. Syracuse (ESPN2, 12:00)
Pick: Northwestern

Marshall vs. (11) West Virginia (FX, 12:00)
Pick: West Virginia

Appalachain State vs. East Carolina (FSN, 12:00)

Pick: California

Nicholls State vs. Oregon State (Pac-12 Network, 3:00)
Pick: Oregon State

Richmond vs. Virginia (ACC Network, 3:00)
Pick: Virginia

William & Mary vs. Maryland (ESPN3, 3:00)
Pick: Maryland

Miami vs. Boston College (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30)
Just do not see the offense for the Eagles.
Pick: Miami

Southern Miss vs. (17) Nebraska (ABC/ESPN2, 3:30)
Pick: Nebraska

Bowling Green vs. (23) Florida (ESPN, 3:30)

Youngstown State vs. Pittsburgh (ESPN3, 6:00)
Pick: Pittsburgh

Liberty vs. Wake Forest (ESPN3, 6:30)
Pick: Wake Forest

(14) Clemson vs. Auburn (ESPN, 7:00)
An underrated Auburn rushing attack will keep them in it but they lack the firepower of Clemson.
Pick: Clemson

North Texas vs. (3) LSU (ESPNU, 7:00)
Pick: LSU

Jackson State vs. Mississippi State (FSN, 7:00)
Pick: Mississippi State

Savannah State vs. (19) Oklahoma State (FOX College Sports, 7:00)

Pick: Texas Tech

Lamar vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (COX-4, 7:00)
Pick: Louisana-Lafayette

South Dakota State vs. Kansas (Jayhawk Network, 7:00)
Pick: Kansas

Central Arkansas vs. Ole Miss (CSS PPV, 7:00)
Pick: Ole Miss

Jacksonville State vs. (10) Arkansas (ARSN PPV, 7:00)
Pick: Arkansas

SE Louisiana vs. Missouri (Mizzou PPV, 7:00)
Pick: Missouri

Hawaii vs. (1) USC (FOX, 7:30)
Pick: USC

(2) Alabama vs. (8) Michigan (ABC, 8:00)
The game everybody is looking at, I would be surprised if Michigan won. Alabama has the skill needed on defense to handle Denard Robinson and the offensive line of the Tide will manhandle Michigan's defensive line.
Pick: Alabama

Rutgers vs. Tulane (CBS Sports Network, 8:00)
Pick: Rutgers

Indiana State vs. Indiana (BTN, 8:00)
Pick: Indiana

Texas State vs. Houston (CSS, 8:00)

Pick: Louisville

SMU vs. Baylor (FSN, 8:00)
Pick: Baylor

Monday, September 3
Georgia Tech vs. (16) Virginia Tech (ESPN, 8:00)
The Yellow Jackets' option attack will keep them in the game but I do not think they will have an answer for Logan Thomas.
Pick: Virginia Tech
