Kentucky is the 2012 National Champion of College Basketball

Did the best team win? That's not even a question. Save for a late run by the Kansas Jayhawks that came up shy, the Kentucky Wildcats, the number one overall seed, were in complete control in the National Championship Game and won 67-59 tonight to win it all at the Louisiana Superdome down in New Orleans. This is Kentucky's eighth title, their first since 1998, and it is the first championship for head coach John Calipari.

It was a balanced effort as it has been all season for these young club. Sophomore guard Doron Lamb led the team with 22 points, and had three threeballs. Freshman guard Marcus Teague contributed 14 points. Fellow freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist did it all for UK and was brilliant on defense, as always. Sophomore big guy Terrence Jones had nine and seven. And only a guy like Anthony Davis could be the Most Outstanding Player with only two points in the final but he still dominated with 16 boards, five assists, which led the team, and he had six blocks which was enough for him to set the record for blocks in a season.

And you have to give much props to the Jayhawks who really made it a game late. But the kings of the dance are the Kentucky Wildcats as they are the National Champions for the 2011-12 college basketball season.
