NFL Network to air 13 Thursday Night Games in 2012

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that NFL Network, which currently airs eight games as part of its Thursday Night Football package, will expand that package to thirteen games spanning weeks 2-15 (not counting Thanksgiving night as that game will now be on NBC). The commissioner said that now all 32 teams will be able to play in primetime at least once next season and in the seasons thereafter. Also NFL Network will no longer be carrying games on Saturday, as they have aired one in the last several seasons.

It will be interesting to see how this affects the two major cable providers that still do not carry NFL Network, Cablevision and Time Warner Cable, as both have said that the price of the channel is not worth it for eight games. Cablevision also wants Sunday Ticket to be opened to all cable providers but that is a story for another day.
