Buccaneers' Hiring of Greg Schiano Now Official

A couple of hours ago, the story about Greg Schiano, head coach at Rutgers, being close to a deal to become the next head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers surprised many, including myself. Now it is official that the 45-year-old Schiano will be coaching the Bucs next season. General manager Mark Dominik said in an email to the Associated Press that he will be given a five-year contract.

Now I talked at length about the hire in the prior post but I get the feeling that the Tampa Bay organization was really looking to get a college coach to take their very young team to the next level. But the fact is, unlike say if Chip Kelly had agreed to come, Schiano will not excite the fanbase, which has been lackluster of late.

Peter King of Sports Illustrated has his take right here.
