After being fired by the Eagles, where will Andy Reid be coaching next?

While there are a surprise or two every time we get to the NFL's "Black Monday" where we see a coach that gets fired that takes some folks by surprise, the majority of firings are widely expected. That's the case we have with Andy Reid, who has been fired by the Eagles after serving as their head coach for fourteen years. We all have expected Reid to get the ax for several weeks now as the Eagles completely fell apart as it was apparent that the Eagles needed a change at the top to go forward.

That said, Reid is only 54 years old and did have a very successful tenure in Philadelphia, becoming the most successful coach in team history, so like Jeff Fisher, he will have another job if he wants it, perhaps as soon as next season. So what is next?

Did Lovie Smith deserve to be fired by the Bears?

One of the biggest developments of the so-called "Black Monday" has been the firing of Lovie Smith by the Chicago Bears, in a move that did take some folks by surprise. Smith coached the Bears to one Super Bowl appearance, a loss to the Indianapolis Colts in 2007, two NFC Championship Game appearances and three playoff berths in nine seasons in the Windy City. Smith leaves town with an 81-63 record, easily the best with the club since Mike Ditka was fired after the 1992 campaign.

Considering his relatively successful tenure with the Bears, did Smith ultimately deserve to get the axe?

27 December 2012

Did Avery Johnson deserve to get axed by the Nets?

The big news of the NBA today without a doubt was the news that the struggling Brooklyn Nets, sitting at 14-14 and in eighth place in the Eastern Conference after having lost five of six, had fired coach Avery Johnson. Did the "Little General" deserve to be fired or was something else at play?

2012 NFL Week 17 Picks

It seems like just yesterday that the 2012 NFL season was kicking off and now we are coming to the final week of the campaign. Lots of different things at play this week. Some teams already have playoff berths locked up, a few are playing for a chance to get into the postseason while everyone is looking to end their season on a bright spot. Who will win this week? Here are my week 17 picks.

From all of "us" here at B-FLO 360, have a Merry Christmas.

2012 NFL Playoff Projections: Week 16

There are only two weeks left in the season and there is still much to be decided in both conferences on the road to the playoffs. Here are my playoff projections for week 16.

Are the Blue Jays the team to beat in the AL East?

With the exception of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the most aggressive club this offseason has been the Toronto Blue Jays, who have made a pair of trades with woebegone N.L. East teams to bolster their roster. After taking part in the Marlins' epic firesale that brought Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, Mark Buerhle, Emilio Bonifacio and John Buck north of the border in exchange for some prospects and other spare parts, the Jays made a move for N.L. Cy Young Award winner recipient R.A. Dickey while sending their top prospects, catcher Travis D'Arnaud and starter Noah Syndergaard to Queens. After these bold moves, are the Blue Jays now the team to beat in the A.L. East?

18 December 2012

2012 NFL Week 16 Picks

Only two weeks left to go in the 2012 NFL season and there is still much to be decided. Perhaps most notably, who will win the NFC East? The Redskins, Giants and Cowboys are all tied at 8-6 for first place and all three have potentially tough games this week. Who will get the upper hand going into the final week?

17 December 2012

What does Josh Hamilton's signing with the Angels mean?

For the second straight year, the Los Angeles of Anaheim have reeled in the big kahuna of free agency and once again, seemingly out of nowhere. Outfielder Josh Hamilton has agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract with the club just hours ago. Here's my analysis.

ESPN's Rob Parker gave the most ridiculous criticism of Robert Griffin III

On the weekday disaster that is First Take, the topic at hand was Robert Griffin III and his recent comments that he does not want to be defined by his race. And thus, Rob Parker gave us a pretty shocking critique of Griffin, asking if he was "a brother, or a cornball brother." Let's go to the videotape.

2012 NFL Playoffs Projections: Week 15

There is only three weeks left in the 2012 campaign and only four clubs have clinched playoff berths, meaning that there is plenty of shaking up that could go on. With that in mind, here are my projections for the NFL playoff field for week 15.

12 December 2012

With their wild spending spree, are the Los Angeles Dodgers the NL favorites?

Ned Colletti, Zach Greinke, Magic Johnson
Since the Guggenheim Partners purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers for over $2 billion from the slimeball Frank McCourt this past spring, they have given GM Ned Colletti the green light to add salary and boy has he ever. Spurred on by new ownership and an enormous television contract from FOX Sports that appears to be on the way, the team has added almost $600 million under new ownership and thanks to the expensive acquisitions this offseason of pitchers Zach Greinke and Korean import Hyun-Jin Ryu, they will have a record $230 million payroll. But will all that green free flowing in Chavez Ravine lead to the team's first title since 1988?

Watch Kyrie Irving school Dwight Howard

Kyrie Irving is pretty good. How good is he, Flo? He's so good, watch him school Dwight Howard last night in the Cavaliers' victory over the Los Angeles Lakers with this beautiful move. Let's go to the videotape.

11 December 2012

2012 NFL Week 15 Picks

One of the top games of the fifteenth week of the season will take place in Foxborough as Colin Kaepernick, Saved by the Bell cameo star Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers will cross the country to take on the New England Patriots on Sunday night. Could this be a potential Super Bowl preview? Here is my pick for that game as well as for the 15 others this week in the NFL.

2012-13 Bowl Game Predictions

Well, this is awkward
Everybody is looking forward to the BCS National Championship Game in Miami Gardens on the seventh of January but hey, we got 34 bowl games before that! With that in mind, here are my predictions for each and every bowl game this winter.

09 December 2012

2012 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 15

With only a few weeks left in the season, the doubleheader this Sunday on CBS is very important for the AFC playoff picture. The lead game in the early window features the Broncos visiting the Ravens in the Charm City with other folks getting Colts-Texans or Jaguars-Dolphins. The later window national game features the Steelers heading down to Arlington to face the Cowboys with others getting a real barn-barner in Chiefs-Raiders. Continue reading for announcing assignments and distribution splits.

2012 NFL on FOX Announcers & Distribution: Week 15

It's a big singleheader this Sunday on FOX with most of the games having playoff implications for the NFC. Most of the America will see the Giants and Falcons duke it out in Atlanta, with others getting Packers-Bears, Buccaneers-Saints, Vikings-Rams, Redskins-Browns or one of the late games, Seahawks-Bills from Toronto, Lions-Cardinals or Panthers-Chargers. Continue reading for announcing assignments as well as distribution splits.

Watch the worst free throw attempt ever

We have seen and enjoyed some truly terrible efforts on free throws but this one that occured in this high-profile collegiate matchup between Appalachian State and Western Carolina with the Mountaineers' Brian Okam on the line has to take the cake. Let's go to the videotape.

07 December 2012

Watch Harry Reid openly mock the New York Jets on the Senate floor

This actually happened. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) took to the Senate floor yesterday and in an attempt to jab the GOP, compared them to the New York Jets. Let's go to the videotape.

05 December 2012

2012-13 Bowl Game Announcers

We now know all 35 bowl matchups, let's see who will be calling those games on either ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, CBS or FOX.

2012 NFL Playoff Predictions: Week 14

With four weeks remaining in the 2012 NFL season, here are my predictions for how the playoff picture will look at the end of the regular season.

04 December 2012

The New Orleans Hornets are becoming the New Orleans Pelicans

Ever since Tom Benson announced his purchase of the turbulent New Orleans NBA franchise, the Hornets, he was clear in his intent to change the name to something more New Orleans-oriented. After all, the franchise was originally the Charlotte Hornets and when they moved to the Big Easy thanks to their scumbag owner becoming a hated public figure, and they never changed the name. But it was reported today by Marc J. Spears that the team will be known as the New Orleans Pelicans as early as next season. Here is my analysis.

Who will win the Heisman Trophy tonight?

History will be made this Saturday at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York. Either we will have the first defense-only Heisman Trophy recipient in Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o, we will have the first freshman recipient in Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel or we will have the first Mandolin-playing Heisman winner in Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein (I actually can't confirm that. If anyone can and comment below, they will receive a legitimate blog shoutout). So who will win?

2012 NFL Week 14 Picks

In what makes to be a huge game in regards to the AFC playoff picture and probably will play a role in who gets homefield advantage, Arian Foster and the Houston Texans will head on up to Foxborough and take on the New England Patriots. We've got the top two seeds in the conference going at it on Monday night, who will win?

03 December 2012

Watch Byron Mullens dunk all over LaMarcus Aldridge

It's always a good time when we can get friend of the blog Byron Mullens in the mix and he certainly earned his due this time by dunking all up in LaMarcus Aldridge's grill. Of course, it should have been a charge but don't rain on this parade, eh? Let's go to the videotape.

02 December 2012

2012 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 14

This Sunday, the NFL on CBS will have a singleheader. Most of the country will see Chargers-Steelers, with others seeing Titans-Colts, Ravens-Redskins, Jets-Jaguars, Chiefs-Browns or the sole late game, Dolphins-49ers. Continue reading for announcers and distribution.

2012 NFL on FOX Announcers & Distribution: Week 14

The NFL on FOX this Sunday features a doubleheader. In the early window, most of the country will get Cowboys-Bengals, while other may see Bears-Vikings, Falcons-Panthers, Eagles-Buccaneers or Rams-Bills. In the national window, most of America will see Saints-Giants while others will get Cardinals-Seahawks. Continue reading for announcers and distribution.

2012-13 Bowl Game Matchups

Who would ever think we would see the day when Northern Illinois would be in a BCS bowl but behind the talents of quarterback Jordan Lynch, the Huskies, who won the MAC on Friday night by defeating Kent State in double overtime in Detroit, are headed to the Orange Bowl to take on Florida State. Of course ESPN is angry about them getting in, but I guess they don't have problems with automatic qualifiers Wisconsin (Big Ten) or Louisville (Big East) getting in either. Don't shoot the messenger, friends.

Quasi-rant aside, let's take at the 35 bowl games that will dot December and January.

29 November 2012

The NBA shouldn't penalize the Spurs for sitting starters

On Thursday night, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich decided not to play Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Danny Green on Thursday night against the Heat in Miami and chose to send those guys back to San Antonio. Popvich said it was in the team's best interest to rest their core players at the end of a road trip in which they have played six games in eight days. Naturally, David Stern doesn't like it and vows to sanctions the team, which is flat-out ridiculous.

Can B.J. Upton realize his potential in Atlanta?

We have seen the first major move of free agency with the Atlanta Braves bringing Rays centerfielder B.J. Upton to town on a five-year, $75.25 million contract. While Upton was one of the top batters on the market, the knock on him has been that he has not met his immense potential in his career thus far. Can he do that in Atlanta?

28 November 2012

2012 NFL Playoff Predictions: Week 13

As we enter the final month of the 2012 NFL season, here are my predictions for how the playoff picture will look like when the season concludes in five weeks.

27 November 2012

2012 NFL Week 13 Picks

It's a big game in the playoff picture this Sunday at Soldier Field and in fact would be a matchup on Wild Card Weekend if the season ended today as Evan Moore and the Seattle Seahawks visit the Chicago Bears. Both of these clubs recently ended two-game streaks, a two-game winning for Seattle and a two-game losing for the Bears, but who will make a strong stamp in the NFC picture?

It's time for my week 13 picks.

26 November 2012

2012 NFL on FOX Announcers & Distribution: Week 13

This Sunday, the 13th Sunday of the season, FOX will have a singleheader. Most of the country will see Vikings-Packers with others seeing 49ers-Rams, Cardinals-Jets, Seahawks-Bears, Panthers-Chiefs or Buccaneers-Broncos. Continue reading for announcing assignments and distribution splits.

Can Kent State crack the BCS?

So let's say I told you before the season that there would be a BCS-buster this year from a non-qualifying conference. Doesn't sound too crazy, right? Now let's say that the team is not Boise State. Let's also say that this team is not undefeated, with the one loss coming at the hands of an awful Kentucky club by 33 points. And the club in question has only made a bowl twice in their history and not in 40 years.

That club is the Golden Flashes of Kent State, and they may be coming to a BCS bowl near you.

2012 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 13

The NFL on CBS has itself a doubleheader this Sunday, so watch out. The lead early game is Patriots-Dolphins while others will see Colts-Lions, Texans-Titans or Jaguars-Bills. The lead game in the later window is Steelers-Ravens while others will see Bengals-Chargers or Browns-Raiders. Continue reading for announcers and distribution splits.

25 November 2012

2012 College Football Week 14 Picks

We already know one of the teams in the BCS National Championship Game and the other team will be determined this Saturday afternoon in Atlanta with the SEC Championship Game. Will Nick Saban's Crimson Tide make a repeat appearance in the title game or will Mark Richt's Bulldogs play for their first title in 30 years? Here are my week 14 selections.

2012-13 Week 13 Bowl Projections

And just like that, our national championship game appears to be all set, just about. In one corner, playing in their first national championship since 1988, Notre Dame. In the other, the victory of the SEC championship, which will be Georgia or Alabama. Even though we think we have a pretty solid idea of who will be playing for the national title, what about all other bowl games? Here are my week 13 projections.

21 November 2012

2012 NFL on FOX Announcers & Distribution: Week 12

Thanksgiving is this Thursday and FOX features a classic NFC East rivalry with the Washington Redskins heading down to Arlington to take on the Dallas Cowboys. Then we are on to this Sunday where FOX will have a doubleheader with the primary game in the early window being an ol' fashioned Black and Blue division matchup with the Bears hosting the Vikings. Other early games are Falcons-Buccaneers and Dolphins-Seahawks. Then the primary game in the national window is the 49ers going down to the Big Easy to take on the Saints, with the other game being Rams-Cardinals. Continue reading for announcers and distribution.

19 November 2012

2012 NFL Week 12 Picks

When you think of Thanksgiving, first things that come to mind have to be turkey, mashed potatoes, pie, family, that crazy uncle, fall, being thankful and football (and not necessarily in that order). Football has truly become a great piece of the Thanksgiving tradition in this country and we get to enjoy it this Thursday with three quality games. And thus, it is time for my week 12 picks.

What does Maryland's and Rutgers' move to the Big Ten mean?

Maryland's Byrd Stadium
This morning, the Board of Regents at the University of Maryland voted to leave the Atlantic Coast Conference, of which it is a charter member, for the Big Ten Conference for the 2014-15 school year. This was expected after rumors swirled all weekend that the Big Ten was in serious discussions with Maryland as well as Rutgers, which is expected to vote like Maryland as its Board of Governors is meeting later today. Here is what this latest bit of realignment means for the college football world.

Why Miami is making a mistake with another bowl ban

One would appear that when Stephen Morris and the Miami Hurricanes clinched bowl elgibility on Saturday after blowing out South Florida. But this morning, in an attempt to get ahead of sanctions from the Nevin Shapiro scandal and a hope to lessen said sanctions, the university has decided for the second straight year to impose a bowl ban in a move the school refers to as "unprecedented."

Now normally I would not have a problem with this move; the Hurricanes are not looking to get into a major bowl so trying through this move to possibly get a lesser penalty from the NCAA would make sense. But I do think this is a mistake and here is why.

18 November 2012

2012 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 12

Thanksgiving and football just go together just like any great combinations in history. A key part of the tradition is the Detroit Lions, who have hosted games on Turkey Day since 1934. CBS will feature the Lions hosting the Houston Texans this Thanksgiving. And then on Sunday, most of the country will see Broncos-Chiefs with others seeing Bills-Colts, Steelers-Browns, Raiders-Bengals, Titans-Jaguars or Ravens-Chargers in the late slot. Continue reading for announcers and distribution.

2012 College Football Week 13 Picks

No Oprah appearances are required now for Manti Te'o and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to get to the BCS National Championship Game because after all the madness on Saturday night with both Oregon and Kansas State losing, all they have to do is win Saturday night in Los Angeles are they will be playing for all the marbles. Will they get it done or come up just shy? It's my week 13 selections.

Watch Dana Holgorsen absolutely lose his mind

Everybody knows that West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen is the prototypical "Mad Scientist" and an incredibly energetic and fiery guy. The guy loves to drink Red Bull and will frequently go nuts. Case A: late in third quarter, Holgorsen, irate after what he felt was a pass interference no-call, threw his headset a couple of times and proceeded to berate the referees. Good stuff, let's go to the videotape.

2012-13 Bowl Projections After Week 12

Thanks to redshirt freshman quarterback Kevin Hoga and the Stanford Cardinal, as well as the Baylor Bears, we have ourselves a hearty shakeup in the BCS picture. Not just because Kansas State and Oregon fell, but the Cardinal may be on their way to a potential Rose Bowl appearance, their first since 1999. Without any further hesitation, here are my current bowl projections.
