Fox Wins Rights to 2018 & 2022 FIFA World Cups

Bids from ESPN, NBC and Fox were submitted on Wednesday in Zurich for the television rights for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. ESPN was considered the favorite due to their tremendously successful coverage of the 2010 World Cup meanwhile NBC was considered more of an upstart as the new kid on the block trying to chip away at ESPN and build the NBC Sports Network (now known as Versus). Fox was considered a wild card if anything and not much of a real contender. But today in a surprise move, the rights have been awarded to Fox. Here are my initial thoughts.

Streaker Dressed Up Like Referee at UCLA-Arizona & Brawl Ensues

Well if you stayed around to watch Arizona manhandle UCLA and all but end Rick Neuheisel's tenure, you got rewarded big time.

This is the first time I've seen a streaker at a sporting event lead itself into a brawl. Great stuff.

Watch the Adrian Beltre Foul Ball No-Call

Well it certainly was a pretty exciting game 1 of the 2011 World Series as the St. Louis Cardinals came out on top over the Texas Rangers 3-2. What the game will be remembered for though was when in the top of the ninth with one out, Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre hit a ball that hit his foot and then went into fair territory. The ball was not called dead as it should have been, Cardinals third baseman David Freese fielded the ball and threw to first to get the second out of the inning. Let's go to the videotape.

2011 NFL Week 7 Picks

We're going international this week as we've got the Bears and the Buccaneers duking it out in London over some tea and crumpets. Football too. No London Silly Nannies unfortunately.
Well after my mediocre British jokes, here are my week 7 picks.

2011 NFL on Fox Announcers & Distribution: Week 7

We got another doubleheader for the NFL on Fox, notably including the game at Wembley Stadium in London between the Chicago Bears and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which will be the lead game in the early window. The other games in the early slot are Falcons-Lions, Redskins-Panthers and Seahawks-Browns. The two game in the late window are Rams-Cowboys and Packers-Vikings. Is Jimmie Johnson's 6th Straight Cup Title Hunt Over?

Heading into Charlotte Motor Speedway, the fifth race in the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup, Jimmie Johnson had had an inconsistent Chase. He had two average finishes and after two races was tenth in the standings. But he followed that up with a runner-up finish at Dover and a victory at Kansas and he was sitting in third in the standings, looking like he will continue his run for a sixth straight title. But with about 18 laps to go, at a track Johnson was once so dominant at, he crashed hard into the wall and his day was done with a 34th place finish. Now that he sits in eighth in the points with five races to go and 35 points behind the leader Carl Edwards, does he have any chance to rally and win yet another title?

2011 World Series Predictions

Well it's been an exciting postseason after an epic culmination of the regular season and here we are, the Fall Classic. The champions of the National League, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the champions of the American League, the Texas Rangers, will be duking it out in a best-of-seven to decide the champions of the 2011 MLB season. Who do I got?

2011-12 College Football Bowl Predictions After Week 7

Well here are my first bowl predictions of the 2011-12 College Football season and I guess you would say we are about halfway through the season. As you probably know the initial BCS standings came out last night so this is a good time to begin these predictions. So here we go.

2011 NFL on CBS Announcers & Distribution: Week 7

It's a singleheader Sunday on the NFL on CBS with a five game slate. The games at 1:00 are Chargers-Jets, Texans-Titans and Broncos-Dolphins while the games at 4:05 are Steelers-Cardinals and Chiefs-Raiders. Here are the announcing assignments as well as the distribution splits for this Sunday on the Tiffany Network.

The Raiders Have to Pursue Carson Palmer UPDATE

In Sunday's victory over the Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders starting quarterback Jason Campbell (pictured above) broke his collarbone and is lost for the rest of the season. As of right now Kyle Boller is the starter and Terrelle Pryor is the backup. That may be passable for a team going nowhere but not for a club that is a playoff contender, as the Raiders are right now, as Boller is a proven mediocre starter and Pryor has absolutely zero experience.
And thus, the Raiders have to go after Carson Palmer.
UPDATE: It appears that the Raiders have indeed acquired Palmer. Details here.

Dan Wheldon Killed in Vicious Crash in IndyCar Finale at Las Vegas

Dan Wheldon, two-time champion of the Indianapolis 500 including this year's race, has died today after a massive crash in which 15 cars were involved in the IndyCar 2011 finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Drivers were concerned about the very high speeds in practice for today's race and how it could lead to a dangerous wreck, which it did and took the life of Wheldon. Wheldon started today's race dead last and at the point of the crash had gained ten spots and he was racing for a $5 million payday if he were to win.
He was 33 years old. Rest in peace.

Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh Are Not Happy With Each Other

After the 49ers' victory over the Lions today, San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh was very exuberant after the game, which clearly pissed off Lions coach Jim Schwartz was pretty ticked. A quasi-brawl broke out. Let's go to the videotape.

Watch A.J. Hawk Flip the Bird

Not sure who Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk was giving the finger too after this sack of Rams quarterback Sam Bradford considering he was looking at the Packers sideline but alas...

2011 College Football Week 8 Picks

This should be an exciting week 8 of the 2011 College Football season with some high-quality matchups on tap. These include Oklahoma State-Missouri, Auburn-LSU, USC-Notre Dame and Wisconsin-Michigan State. Who do I think will take home the bacon this week? Here are my picks.

2011 MLB Postseason: Will the Cardinals Reach the World Series or will the Brewers Force Game 7?

Well on Sunday evening it's game 6 of the 2011 National League Championship Series with the St. Louis Cardinals in a position to clinch a berth in the World Series against the Texas Rangers up three games to two over the Milwaukee Brewers. But the Brewers are not likely to let their best season in 30 years just slip away. So will emerge victorious in Miller Park tonight?

2011 MLB Postseason: Texas Rangers Win American League, Advance to World Series

Behind an awesome American League Championship Series performance from Nelson Cruz, who clubbed a record six home runs, and an offensive explosion keyed by the lack of depth in the Detroit Tigers' bullpen, the Texas Rangers are headed to the 2011 World Series after knocking off Detroit in six games, culiminating in a 15-5 beatdown on Saturday night. The Rangers torched Tigers starter Max Scherzer early, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the third with Michael Young hitting a pair of two run scoring doubles. Not only did Cruz set a postseason record with six homers in the season but he also drove in a record 13 RBIs in the series.
The Rangers are headed to their second consecutive World Series and will take on the Milwaukee Brewers or the St. Louis Cardinals.
