Jockey John Velazquez was originally going to be on the reins of Uncle Mo, who had the second best odds for victory. However, Velazquez was on the sidelines when Uncle Mo was scratched earlier in the week. He then replaced Robby Albarado on the reins of Animal Kingdom, a long shot at 20-1, after Albarado broke his nose earlier this week as well. And somehow, someway Animal Kingdom roared to the lead coming out of the fourth turn and won the 137th Kentucky Derby. Meanwhile, favorite Dialed In was never a factor and finished in eighth. Second and third place were claimed by Nehro and Mucho Macho Man respectively.
