Belmont Wins Atlantic Sun Tournament, Heads To NCAA Tournament

The second team to make the 2011 NCAA Tournament is the Belmont Bruins, who routed North Florida in the Atlantic Sun championship by a 87-46 score. Their last appearance in March Madness was in 2008 when they memorably took the Duke Blue Devils to the limit before coming up short 71-70.
Bracketology 101 has the Bruins projected to be a 13 seed and this is a very good club that will go away easily. They are a great offensive team and can definitely pull off an upset.

Pittsburgh Beats Villanova, Claims Big East Regular Season Championship

By defeating the #19 Villanova Wildcats today by a 60-50 score, the #4 Pittsburgh Panthers won their third ever regular season Big East championship today. Pitt also secured the top overall seed in the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden next week. The Panthers finished off the regular season at a 27-4 record while the Wildcats continue their slide to end their regular season with a four game losing streak with a final record 21-10 clip. Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery have the report from the Steel City.

UNC Asheville Wins The Big South & Is Headed To The NCAA Tournament

The first team in the 2011 NCAA Tournament are the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville, who defeated Coastal Carolina today in the Big South Championship Game, 60-47. This will be UNCA's first appearance in March Madness since 2003. This is the second year that Coastal was the top seed in the Big South and lose the championship game.
The Bulldogs were led by Chris Stephenson, who scored 14 points with 8 boards, and Matt Dickey, who scored 12. The Bulldogs are likely to be a 16 seed in this year's big dance.

Arizona Holds Off Oregon, Captures Pac-10 Regular Season Championship

For the first time since 2005, the #18 Arizona Wildcats are regular season champions of the Pacific-10 conference by defeating the Oregon Ducks 90-82 today in Tuscon. Sean Miller's club was lead by junior guard Kyle Fogg with 20 points while star forward Derrick Williams battled foul trouble but still contributed 14 points. 'Zona is now 25-6 and did not lose at all at home this season while Dana Altman's rebuilding Ducks squad falls to 14-16 but showed some promise for the future today. Spero Dedes and Bob Wenzel have the report from McKale Center.

So Bob Knight was on College Gameday this morning in Waco, Texas and he and Digger Phelps were coaching in an end-of-game demonstration. As the referees (Rece Davis, Hubert Davis, Jay Bilas) went to a review, Knight then uses some dirty language. Hilarious. To the videotape.

President Obama Wants an NFL Lockout to be Avoided

BYU Falls To New Mexico, Is A Top Seed Opportunity Gone?

For only the third team this season, Brigham Young has fallen. But this team they fell big, by an 82-64 score to New Mexico, who have now swept the Cougars. This time though, the Cougars were without big man Brandon Davies, who was booted from the team for violating the school's honor code, supposedly for premarital sex.
Check out the highlights from last night's upset and does this mean that the BYU Cougars will not get a top seed?

Marvin Williams Completely Rejects Derrick Rose

It was a big win for the Atlanta Hawks last night over the Chicago Bulls, thanks to some last-minute heroics, but by far the highlight of that game was MVP candidate Derrick Rose getting stuffed by an epic block by Marvin Williams. Why do you think he looks so dejected? To the videotape.

2011 NFL Mock Draft: Post Combine Edition

The NFL Combine wrapped up yesterday and thus a lot of draft stocks changed dramatically or stayed just the same. As always, I try to not put too much stock into the combine but it does have a major effect on the draft. That said, there are changes throughout the round of my sixth edition of my 2011 NFL Mock Draft so let's dive right in.

Nets Targeting Dwight Howard

Since pulling off the stunning trade for Deron Williams, the New Jersey Nets are looking to add another star or two to the squad as they plan on moving to Brooklyn after next season, plus to keep Williams around as they hope to sign him to an extension when he is eligible to over the summer. Williams spoke with Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and general manager Billy King about who they plan to bring in, according to Al Iannazone of the Bergen Record, and the man that tops their list is Dwight Howard.

Should the Yankees Trade For Francisco Liriano? Absolutely

The hot rumor today is regarding the New York Yankees trading for Twins ace Francisco Liriano. Andrew Marchand from ESPNNewYork reported that the Yankees have been in contact with the Twins about him. It was also reported that it might be possible for the Yankees to acquire Liriano for Joba Chamberlain and Ivan Nova, although SBNation's Rob Neyer kinda scoffs at that. But the Yankees really should go hard after Liriano.

April 6, 2009 was the last time Jeff Gordon won a Spring Cup Series race but he ended the 66 race winless skid today at Phoenix International Raceyway today as he won the Subway Fresh Fit 500. Gordon led a race high 138 laps and took the lead for good by bumping runner-up Kyle Busch on lap 304 of 312. "We just beat Kyle Busch!" Gordon yelled over his radio as he headed to Victory Lane. This was Gordon's 83rd career victory and that ties him for fifth all time with Cale Yarborough.
