2011-12 College Football Bowl Game Picks

Here are my predictions for each and every bowl game this winter. Buckle up for the greatness.
Announcers

December 17th
Temple vs. Wyoming
Temple has got a back in Bernard Pierce who is just a complete workhorse. I think the Owls will ride him hard to a close victory.
Owls 17 Cowboys 13

Ohio vs. Utah State
Why the hell is there a bowl game in Boise? Well at least the bowl name is pretty badass (Jeff Parles approves). Utah State has a good back in Robert Turbin but they don't have the passing game to compete with Taylor Tettleton and Ohio.
Bobcats 30 Aggies 19

San Diego State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette
I'm pretty excited for this game, actually I am. San Diego State has the two horses of their offense in quarterback Ryan Lindlay and star back Ronnie Hillman while the Rajin' Cajuns have themselves an efficient QB in Blaine Gautier. I like the Cajuns' home field advantage of sorts.
Rajin' Cajuns 30 Aztecs 28

December 20th
FIU vs. Marshall
FIU has got this explosive playmaker in T.Y. Hilton. Guy's pretty damn fast and can score from anywhere with the ball in his hands. Marshall is pretty punchless so Mario Cristobal's club will continue their rise.
Golden Panthers 28 Thundering Herd 9

December 21st
TCU vs. Louisiana Tech
Well this Louisiana Tech won the WAC this year and has an awesome punter in Ryan Allen. But this TCU club came so close to the BCS it was only held back by the computers and have stars on both sides of the ball in QB Casey Pachall and linebacker Tank Carder.
Horned Frogs 27 Bulldogs 17

December 22nd
Boise State vs. Arizona State
So we got a pretty darn good Boise State team with Kellen Moore in his last game. And we got the ever-inconsistent Sun Devils, who tanked down the stretch and saw their coach get the axe. They do have a tall QB though.
Broncos 31 Sun Devils 9

December 24th

Southern Miss vs. Nevada
Nevada still had a lot of offense but definitely missed Colin Kaepernick and Vai Taua. Austin Davis and the C-USA champs will score more here.
Golden Eagles 39 Wolfpack 28

December 26th

North Carolina vs. Missouri
The Tigers have played some strong teams this year and has some success in the Big XII, which was excellent this year. North Carolina was very inconsistent and will have their eyes on Larry Fedora for next year.

Tigers 20 Tar Heels 10

December 27th

Purdue vs. Western Michigan
Purdue has had some nice wins (Ohio State) and some awful losses (Rice). They don't have the big play capability that Western Michigan has with quarterback Alex Carder.
Broncos 27 Boilermakers 17

NC State vs. Louisville
The Wolfpack were not a very good team by any stretch this season. Then again neither was Louisville, but they came this close to a BCS berth via the Big East championship. I think the impressive Teddy Bridgewater will lead Louisville to victory.

Cardinals 19 Wolfpack 14

December 28th

Air Force vs. Toledo
Toledo's offense has been extroadinarily explosive and prolific of late and while Air Force runs a meaty option, they don't have the scoring capabilites that stud wideout Eric Page and the Rockets have.
Rockets 38 Falcons 28

Texas vs. California
The Longhorns at least made a bowl this time around unlike last year but were not back to the top by any means. Their defense is nasty and there is talent on offense, just untapped. I think they'll be victorious over a Cal team that scares no one.
Longhorns 20 Golden Bears 14

December 29th
Florida State vs. Notre Dame
I predicted both teams to reach the BCS this year. But now is it both's goal to disappoint all of America year in and year out. I give Florida State the edge because Brian Kelly will be handling a quarterback controversy here.
Seminoles 31 Fighting Irish 29

Baylor vs. Washington
This Huskies defense is really bad. Robert Griffin is really freaking good, my favorite player in the nation nonetheless and the should be Heisman winner. This isn't hard.
Bears 42 Huskies 28

December 30th
BYU vs. Tulsa
I liked Jake Heaps coming into the year but then he struggled and begat Riley Nelson's steady and consistent year. I think this talented BYU will just outscore an explosive Golden Hurricane offense.
Cougars 45 Golden Hurricane 41

Iowa State vs. Rutgers
Well we all know Iowa State beat Oklahoma State. But this team still struggles on offense and this Rutgers team has a dangerous passing game as well as the clear homefield advantage of sorts.
Rutgers 29 Iowa State 18

Wake Forest vs. Mississippi State
Not a great game by any stretch as both were a mediocre 6-6. But it is possible Dan Mullen will not be the coach for the bowl game if he gets hired somewhere else. I'll still take MSU over a sinking Wake Forest tean though.
Bulldogs 13 Demon Deacons 12

Iowa vs. Oklahoma
I know Oklahoma just got spanked by Oklahoma State. But this Iowa is really not that good at all. If the Sooners don't win big, Bob Stoops deserves heat.
Sooners 31 Hawkeyes 10

December 31st
Northwestern vs. Texas A&M
Two talented quarterbacks, two teams that love to blow huge leads. So this game may never end...but will be exciting.
Wildcats 40 Aggies 37

Georgia Tech vs. Utah
How often do the Utes face a top option attack? Well at least not this year after leaving the Mountain West. This is a Utes team that has not impressed all year and lost to Colorado. Enough said.
Yellow Jackets 23 Utes 10

Cincinnati vs. Vanderbilt
Yes Cincinnati almost won the Big East but they also got trounced by a bad Tennessee team. That Tennessee team did beat Vanderbilt but it at least was a game. And Vandy will likely have the crowd on their sighting. Plus their quarterback is Aaron Rodgers' brother.
Commodores 16 Bobcats 9

Illinois vs. UCLA
Under no circumstances should you watch this game. Just go get hammered at some New Year's Eve party and just forget that this game ever happened. By the way, that means bottom's up if you attend Rutgers, you know what I mean.
Fighting Illini 5 Bruins 3

Virginia vs. Auburn
Neither team has a great offense by any stretch but at least Auburn has Michael Dyer, who is a thug in a good way. Virginia fights hard but the Tigers do have the talent advantage.
 Tigers 17 Cavaliers 12

January 2nd
Penn State vs. Houston
Penn State's much deserved bowl fall all the way to Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl actually developed into a pretty darn good game. You get the high powered Houston offense led by Case Keenum and a very stingy Penn State defense. You got the awful Penn State offense and the awful Houston defense. I think Houston will come out a little flat after the disappointing C-USA Championship Game loss and lose here as well. Plus Kevin Sumlin probably won't be coaching here as well.
Nittany Lions 24 Cougars 22

Nebraska vs. South Carolina
Two great defense will be on showcase here in Orlando so it will come down to whose offense will show up. Taylor Martinez was bottled quite a bit down the stretch and the Huskers offense suffered. I think Connor Shaw will lead the 'Cocks to victory.
Gamecocks 18 Cornhuskers 16

Ohio State vs. Florida
The Urban Meyer bowl of past and present and you will hear that name often, this is an ESPN bowl nonetheless. And Taxslayer.com is a friend of the blog. Both teams disappointed this year but I think the Buckeyes will be guilty of looking ahead to the Meyer regime.
Gators 20 Buckeyes 12

Michigan State vs. Georgia
Michigan State will show up unlike in last year's bowl and this should be a hell of a game. These teams are both balanced so I think it will come down to who makes the mistake and I see that being Aaron Murray rather than Kirk Cousins.
Michigan State 33 Georgia 30

January 6th
Kansas State vs. Arkansas

Collin Klein leads an explosive rushing attack of K-State that should have gotten a BCS bid. Arkansas probably would have gotten a BCS bid if it wasn't for rules on the maximum amount of teams from a conference in the BCS. I like Bill Snyder to ride the cowboy down in Arlington.
Wildcats 28 Razorbacks 27

January 7th

Pittsburgh vs. SMU
This Panthers team has been very inconsistent all year and just barely made a bowl game after getting a late victory to get a bowl berth and I don't think they can keep up with June Jones' Run N' Shoot.
Mustangs 31 Panthers 18

January 8th

Northern Illinois vs. Arkansas State
The Red Wolves have been tremendous this year offensively under new head coach Hugh Freeze but he won't be there on January 8th (my birthday by the way) down in Mobile but I think this high powered offense will just edge a veteran NIU club.
Red Wolves 28 Huskies 26

January 2nd
Oregon vs. Wisconsin
Normally you would say that this Wisconsin team is too slow on both sides of the both to keep up with the Ducks but this year is different. This Badgers club is fast and will punch you in the mouth and I think they'll do that in the Grandaddy of Them All.
Badgers 31 Ducks 28

Stanford vs. Oklahoma State
This is the game I'm really getting excited about. This will be an exquisite shootout between two tremendous quarterbacks but I don't think Stanford's slow defense will be able to hold up.
Cowboys 45 Cardinals 35

January 3rd
Virginia Tech vs. Michigan
This Virginia Tech team is really not that good, they've beaten nobody and have lost to the only good team they have placed. I have no confidence in this club but I like what Brady Hoke is doing. If Denard Robinson can throw with any effectivity, the Wolverines will roll.
Wolverines 27 Hokies 13

January 4th
Clemson vs. West Virginia
You will see a lot of points as these two spread offense will score at will. Yes Clemson was impressive in the ACC Championship Game but the way they stumbled down the stretch with Tajh Boyd making turnover after turnover leads me to lean UWV.
Mountaineers 38 Tigers 35

January 9th
Alabama vs. LSU
Don't expect many points this time around, people that were disappointed in how low scoring the first matchup was don't know college football. This is going to be another hard-fought, slug it out, defensive showdown. I think you will see the same result with a long punt return by Tyrann Mathieu being the difference.
Tigers 13 Crimson Tide 9

  1. Arizona State should be a lot closer than that, after all, they didn't get beat by many points in their losses. I predict, Broncos 17 Sun Devils 14

  2. The National Championship, your right about minimal points, but I think it's going to be an Alabama win over LSU... 10-7.

  3. it's nice how he has Alabama scoring 3 field goals when their kicker missed 4 of them on his HOME field....
