Chicago Cubs Hire Dale Sveum as Manager

The Theo Epstein-Jed Hoyer braintrust aimed at bringing a title to the North Side of Chicago has found their manager in Milwaukee Brewers hitting coach Dale Sveum. Here's my take on the hiring.
Epstein has said before that he wanted someone with managerial experience to take the helm for the Cubbies. Sveum fits that mold, although just barely as he only managed the last 12 games of the 2008 season with the Brewers after Ned Yost was fired as well as the four games in the NLDS in which the Brewers fell three game to one to Philadelphia. But it's a solid hire regardless because he knows the division, was widely respected as a hitting coach and has connections with Epstein as he was the third base coach in Boston in 2004 and 2005.
Many were hoping for Terry Francona to be hired here but there were reports that a rift had grown between him and Epstein in the last days in Boston. I like this hire and the other candidate I would have liked as much as well would have been Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux. But an overall good hire for Epstein and co. But can he bring them a title? That's TBD.
