2011 MLB Postseason: St. Louis Cardinals Advance to the NLCS

It took a near miracle for this club to even make the postseason. But not here the St. Louis Cardinals are, in the National League Championship Series after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 5 of the NLDS 1-0 to take the series three games to two. The decisive game 5 at Citizens Bank Park was being billed as a pitchers' duel and that's what we got this evening. Roy Halladay threw a gem, going eight innings only allowing one run but he got saddled with the loss as that run, a double by Skip Schumacher that scored Rafael Furcal in the first inning, was the difference. The pitcher on the winning end was Chris Carpenter who was absolutely fantastic, pitching to the distance and allowing three hits. Now the Cardinals will be taking on their division rival Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS, starting on Sunday.
