2011 Belmont Stakes Picks

The final and longest leg of the Triple Crown has come upon us as the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes will be run on Saturday afternoon. There are no horses running for the Triple Crown this year after Animal Kingdom won the Kentucky Derby and Shackleford won the Preakness. So who will win at Belmont Park?

WIN: Animal Kingdom (2-1)
I think that the favorite and the Derby champ is the winner here because the track plays to his strengths. Belmont Park's track is the longest on the circuit and what hurt him at the Preakness was simply that he ran out of track to chase down Shackleford but on the longer track at Churchill he was able to move late for the win. I think he'll at least grab 2/3 of the Triple Crown come Saturday afternoon.

PLACE: Master of Hounds (10-1)
This is a thoroughbred that ran well late to grab a top five finish at the Derby but did not run at the Preakness to continue his training in Europe. This is another horse that will benefit from the added length at Belmont Park and with fresh legs, I think he will come close.

SHOW: Nehro (6-1)
Nehro is another horse that did not run in the Preakness, which has bedded well during the Belmont Stakes. The Derby runner-up is a popular pick besides Animal Kingdom to win but I'm not certain if he will get the fast race he needs to be competitive because he does much better at higher speeds.
