Team Fay Defeats Team Parles In Epic Overtime Duel

Where the hell were you Friday night? Because if you were not at Travers gymnasium watching one of the most unbelievable games I have ever seen, much less be a part of, you missed out. And if I told you that Team Fay defeated Team Parles despite being down big early, would you not believe me and die of laughter? Well like I just said, YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE. Oh my goodness.
So the game started like you would expect, the Parles squad was awesome. There were making shots and playing lock down defense. But then the tide turned. The Fay crew started to make shots. They began to shut down the perimeter. And it became a ballgame. It got tight.
It was back and forth till the very end of regulation, when it looked like Parles had the win. But Fay got some breaks and Ross Weiner layed a bucket in off the backboard at the horn for overtime. Still with me?
The overtime period was just as intense. Fay got some breaks and got the lead late. No matter how many free throws they missed, they got the victory and are headed to the championship game next Friday night. 65-62 final.
When the Fay team started out slow, it was Brendan McGrail who took over. When they needed him most, he came up huge. He and Dan Galvin were beasts in the paint, they were just simply awesome. James Stroud, the firebrand. Matt Fay, the glue guy. Dave Galvin and Andrew Oundjian with the enormous three pointers. Weiner, the field general with the ice cold veins who put the game in overtime on the coast-to-coast drive. And there was me, with the bricked jumpers and the screaming from the bench.
I have to give props to Team Parles, they played their hearts out. Evan Linares was simply electric, we did not have an answer. Jeff Parles and Bobby Fischer were also great. Nick Bullen with the smooth as silk jumper who did not even hit the net on his free throws, they were that good. Ray McDowell with some big threes himself. PJ Abplanalp and Evan Romano with the endless effort and determination. I have the upmost respect for those guys, as well as their legendary coaches Mr. Craig Parles and Mr. Vince Linares. I honestly thought that team was the best in the whole league.
But it is Team Fay playing for the 2011 Highlands Rec Basketball championship this Friday night at 8:00 PM at Travers gymnasium against Team Whittam, who won the previous matchup by a 70-60 score.
I can only keep telling you people to show.
