2011 Final Four Picks

Try telling me you saw this Final Four coming with Connecticut, Kentucky, Butler and Virginia Commonwealth all playing with a chance to win it all. I'm still stunned by the tournament this year.
Anyways, who do I think will be playing for all the marbles on Monday for the national championship?

Virginia Commonwealth vs. Butler
The underdog battle in which these two small schools will duke it out. Trying to imagine the Bulldogs getting this far is not that crazy but seeing the Rams getting this far. Many did not even think they would get out of the First Four, let alone reach the Final Four.
The Rams' magical run is one of the most memorable of my lifetime and it's not like this team is beating other teams at the horn or in tight games. With the exception of the Sweet Sixteen game with Florida State, they have won every tournament game handily.
However, I do think experience will hold and Butler will hold on for the win. The Bulldogs will play terrific defense and now allow VCU to shoot the lights out. Matt Howard will be key for the Bulldogs and if he can get his shot cranked up, Butler will be right on track.

Kentucky vs. Connecticut
Now to the more believable national semifinal, even thought not many folks thought the Wildcats could get by Ohio State. Many though did drink the UConn kool-aid because of Mr. Kemba Walker. But this Huskies team is not a one-man show as Jeremy Lamb has been on fire shooting from the perimeter and Alex Oriakhi has been overachieving down low. This game also features an awesome coaching matchup of Jim Calhoun and John Caliapri, who are certainly not exactly drinking buddies.
I think the more talented team will prevail and that is the Kentucky Wildcats. Their key is not to let Walker be as dynamic as he has been throughout the season. And if Kentucky can play as well down low as they have been of late, they will be playing for a title.
